About this role

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, sort and process laundry items, including linen, towels, uniforms, garments and other textiles, in accordance with company procedures.

  • Operate washing machines, dryers, presses, irons and other laundry equipment safely and efficiently.

  • Check laundry items for stains, damage, missing buttons and other defects before and after processing.

  • Apply the correct washing, drying, pressing and finishing methods based on fabric type, colour and care instructions.

  • Measure and use laundry detergents, chemicals and stain-removal products correctly, following manufacturer instructions and health and safety requirements.

  • Fold, press, iron, hang and package clean laundry to the required quality standards.

  • Separate clean and soiled laundry to prevent cross-contamination and maintain high standards of hygiene.

  • Count, label, record and distribute processed laundry accurately to the relevant departments, rooms or customers.

  • Maintain accurate records of laundry volumes, damaged items, lost property, chemical usage and equipment issues where required.

  • Inspect laundry equipment and report faults, leaks, unusual noises, safety concerns or maintenance requirements promptly.

  • Keep the laundry room, storage areas, work surfaces and equipment clean, tidy and organised.

  • Store clean linen, uniforms and other laundry items appropriately to protect them from damage, contamination and loss.

  • Handle laundry bags, linen trolleys and loads safely, following manual handling procedures at all times.

  • Support stock control by monitoring linen, uniforms, laundry supplies, detergents and packaging materials.

  • Report stains, damaged items, shortages, lost property and quality issues to the Supervisor or relevant department.

  • Follow company policies relating to hygiene, infection prevention, chemical handling, fire safety, personal protective equipment and workplace health and safety.

  • Work cooperatively with housekeeping, accommodation, facilities and other departments to meet daily laundry requirements.

  • Carry out other reasonable duties required to support an efficient, hygienic and well-organised laundry operation.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous experience as a Laundry Attendant, Laundry Operative, Housekeeping Assistant, Cleaner or in a similar role is desirable.

  • Experience operating commercial laundry equipment, including washing machines, tumble dryers, irons, presses or steamers, is an advantage.

  • Good understanding of laundry procedures, fabric care, stain removal and the handling of clean and soiled linen.

  • Basic knowledge of workplace health and safety, manual handling, hygiene and safe chemical usage.

  • Ability to identify different fabrics, follow care labels and select appropriate cleaning and finishing methods.

  • Good attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, presentation and quality.

  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple laundry tasks within required timeframes.

  • Physically able to stand for extended periods and lift, carry, push and move laundry bags, linen trolleys and other items when required.

  • Reliable, punctual, organised and willing to take a hands-on approach to daily laundry operations.

  • Positive attitude, professional conduct and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Clear communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays when required.
