About this role

What You'll Be Doing

The Wake County EMS Compliance Officer helps keep our EMS system safe, compliant and ready! We operate one of the busiest, most respected 9-1-1 systems in North Carolina. We're seeking a Compliance Officer who thinks in systems, identifies risk before it becomes tomorrow's headline and translates HIPAA, OSHA and billing regulations into practices our crews can use on scene.
This isn't a back-office paperwork role. You'll sit at the table with EMS leadership, build the risk register and dashboards they actually use, investigate incidents that matter, and help keep the people who respond to Wake County's worst days safe. We hold ourselves to a high standard: integrity, accountability and continuous improvement aren't just posters on the wall here; they're how we run the system. You'll work alongside people who take the mission seriously and value each other's well-being just as much. If you want compliance work with visible, real-world stakes, this is it. Apply today. We move fast for the right candidate.

Essential Functions:

  • Keep our enterprise risk register current and use it to drive real decisions, not just track them
  • Build reports and leadership briefings that turn safety, compliance and billing data into action
  • Lead OSHA compliance, from bloodborne pathogen protocols to systemic safety reviews
  • Investigate safety incidents and near-misses, conduct root cause analyses and ensure corrective actions stick
  • Interpret new and changing regulations and translate them into policies our field staff can follow
  • Audit EMS billing practices and hold our billing vendor accountable
  • Step into the Emergency Operations Center or field safety officer role during major incidents
