About this role

About ALENZ

The Aluminium Extruders Association of New Zealand (ALENZ) is the peak body representing New Zealand’s aluminium extrusion industry.

Our five member businesses have a joint manufacturing capacity of 60,000 tonnes per year, representing all aluminium extrusion product manufactured in New Zealand.

ALENZ engages with decision makers to promote the quality of New Zealand-made extrusions, support a thriving local industry, and advance a low-carbon, circular and resilient economy — with a focus on free and fair trade, energy security, and fair government procurement.

The Opportunity

Lead ALENZ as its Independent Chair & Manager — chairing meetings, driving strategy, and directly advocating for local manufacturing across government (MBIE, NZ Customs, MFAT). This part-time, contractor role (approx. one day per week) offers genuine national influence and flexibility.

What You'll Do

  • Chair ALENZ Executive Meetings (5 x per year) and prepare agendas, papers and financial reporting
  • Advocate directly with MBIE, NZ Customs and MFAT on trade, energy and procurement policy
  • Prepare submissions on legislation affecting the sector
  • Oversee the ALENZ Health & Safety forum and manage subcontractors
  • Maintain ALENZ's social media presence and represent the sector at manufacturing forums
  • Engage confidently with media on behalf of the industry

What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience chairing or leading collaborative enterprises
  • Experienced advocate, with a track record working alongside government agencies and Ministers
  • Experience managing budgets, P&L and financial reporting
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong IT skills, including confidence with online communication and collaboration tools
  • Genuine independence — able to assess issues on their merits, not through any one member's lens
  • Ideally, exposure to manufacturing, or the building and construction sector

Why Apply

  • Genuine national influence — represent a vital NZ industry directly with government
  • Flexibility and autonomy of an independent contractor arrangement
  • Varied, purpose-driven work spanning governance, advocacy and strategy
