Role Purpose

To support Vodafone’s key strategic growth areas in Digital industry and following the Agile mind-set requires a highly capable and experienced Agile Coach

To raise the delivery capability of a group of Enterprise squads — by developing the Scrum Masters who lead them, removing the systemic obstacles that slow the squads down, and helping the business make decisions based on evidence rather than status reporting.

Also, ensuring that the agile methodology is applied within VBU Tribe

Role Responsibility

You will educate employees at all levels, including senior, and at times clients, on Agile principles, providing them with tools for implementing the process in their own work. providing training sessions and teach valuable skills that lead toward the organization-wide adoption of Agile methodologies.

As a mentor, you are responsible for guiding teams into the Agile methodology, providing employees with feedback and means of improvement, catalysing organizational growth and answering questions. They provide hands-on support to all employees, collaborating with people across widely varying levels and roles, leading teams toward further understanding and adoption of Agile as well as overall company growth and improvement.

This task entails implementing Agile process, principles and practices across all levels and departments in an organization. The Agile Coach must use techniques that increase collaboration, predictability, transparency and promote a culture of experimentation and innovation. To do this, the Agile Coach must also embody the Agile principles and lead by example.

You will work closely with Agile teams ensure the Agile framework is being well digested, followed and improved over sprints.

Key Acountabilities

  • Develop the Scrum Masters: Coach and develop a group of Scrum Masters by setting development goals, observe them at work, give direct feedback, and build their capability to facilitate and challenge.
  • Hold the standard for the Scrum Master role across your squads and raise performance concerns early and clearly.
  • Diagnose the real constraints on delivery — flow, dependencies, batch size, unplanned work, backlog quality, release cadence — and lead the changes that address them.
  • Coach Product Owners on backlog health, prioritization and outcome definition.
  • Own the cross-squad problems: Take responsibility for dependency management within your group of squads and cross into other Enterprise domains, where you hold no formal authority.
  • Introduce and embed meaningful delivery measures beyond velocity and RAG status, and coach leaders on how to read them without misusing them.
  • Provide Tribe Heads and the Enterprise Agile Manager with an honest, evidence-based view of delivery health.
  • Take E2E ownership and accountability of establishing agile values, methods, principles & practices for the delivery of digital projects.
  • Take the role of agile coach and facilitate discussions and conflict resolution and enable the exploration of alternatives or different approaches & ensure no impact on the delivery of projects.
  • Understanding of Digital channels technologies & architecture.
  • Proven track record of managing complex software projects with agile methodology.
  • Coaching and developing others
  • Influence without authority, Builds credibility and alignment across tribes.
  • Facilitation runs difficult conversations, workshops and planning events so that groups reach real decisions.
  • Collaboration, works as one team with the other Agile Coaches and the Enterprise Agile Manager, sharing practice rather than protecting territory.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years in agile roles, including at least 3 years as a Scrum Master** and demonstrable experience coaching Scrum Masters or agile teams.
  • Hands-on experience coaching product and software delivery teams.
  • Strong working knowledge of Scrum and Kanban, and of flow-based measurement (cycle time, lead time, throughput, WIP).
  • Practical experience with Jira, including using its data to diagnose delivery problems.
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders without formal authority.
  • Certification such as ICP-ACC, SPC, or equivalent demonstrable capability.
  • BSc or MSc level degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Telecommunications.
  • Preferred to have worked in Telecommunications, or another complex enterprise / B2B environment.
  • Preferred to have exposure to product discovery, UX collaboration or design practices.
