We’re hiring experienced Per Diem Mammography Technologists to provide exceptional patient care across UCSF.

This role requires flexibility to work across multiple locations, including SF Mission Bay, SF Mount Zion, SF Stanyan Hospital, Burlingame Outpatient Center, and Berkeley Outpatient Center.  Work hours and days are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., as needed to provide sick-call and vacation coverage.

A CRT licensed Mammography Technologist performing screening and diagnostic breast imaging and procedures. The Technologist produces ACR quality images in both diagnostic and screening exams. This technologist is able to interact with clinicians and other departments to coordinate patient care. The Technologist ensures clinical data is correct and appropriate in the Radiology Information System (RIS) and PACS systems. The technologist must participate in performance improvement activities in the department. Maintains appropriate quality control records and participates in routine equipment testing and maintenance.  Additionally, the Mammography Technologist must be willing to train and interact with students and new hires when necessary.

The Principal Technologist is responsible for performing screening mammography, diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound and all interventional and invasive procedures in the Mammography Department and serves as a resource for the Imaging technologists in the Breast Imaging department. The Principal Technologist may suggest changes in procedures, and quality improvement, as well as coordinates training and development of the Mammo Technologist. In addition, this position demonstrates mastery of all hospital or clinical imaging competencies. This position also independently performs procedures on adults, geriatric and adolescent age groups. The Principal Technologist provides input for annual performance evaluations, and coordinates equipment basic maintenance as required. Complies with all regulatory mandates for mammography.

  1. Produces ACR quality images following

established departmental protocols to include technique, views, positioning,

proper labeling and patient identification. 

  1. Properly prepares room, equipment and contrast media as needed to assist Radiologist. 
  2. Properly troubleshoots equipment failures, documents and reports to the appropriate individual. 
  3. Prepares patient for imaging. Identifies self, explains the procedure and confirms patient identification, and properly reviews exam requisition through the radiology information system, and or the hospital electronic order entry systems before imaging.
  4. Properly carry out daily quality assurance procedure in accordance with MQSA accreditation compliance.  
  5. Work safely and effectively with ancillary and procedural staff in the mammography environment and participates in the timeout procedure.
  6. Participates in orientation and training of assigned staff, students, residents, and faculty.
  7. Maintains constant communication with patients as well as fellow staff involved with the exam. 
  8. Presents oneself in a professional manner and with a positive demeanor to all patients, co-workers, physicians and departments.

B. ADHERES TO POLICIES AND PROCEDURES 

1.   Utilizes proper body mechanics to ensure staff and patient safety upon moving 

      and or transferring patients and equipment. 

2.   Follows established radiation safety guidelines. Uses appropriate patient 

      shielding.  

3.   Follows established department and hospital guidelines for attendance and

      tardiness.  Regular and predictable job attendance is required, based on the Department Standard guidelines and the represented union contract.

4.   Adheres to all hospital and department policies and procedures. Remains

      current and compliant with all safety policies reviewed on the medical center

      Annual Safety Training module located in the online UC Learning Center link.

5.   Provides excellent customer service to patients, co-workers, physicians and 

      other departments. 

6.   Assures that work environment is clean and in compliance with infection

      control and environmental health and safety standards. Complies with the Hospital Hand Hygiene Policy.

7.   Maintains a professional, neat appearance and adhering to the department dress code policy. Displays hospital identification badge at

      all times.

1.  Ensures clinical data is correct and appropriate for specific procedures being requested, completes all exams in the radiology computer system and up and/or Mammography computer systems, Radiology PAC’s System. Adheres to HIPAA policies and procedures.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate of a JCERT radiology technology training program. 
  • Flexibility in scheduling, with the ability to rotate shifts and holidays.
  • Must be willing to assist at any of the UCSF Medical Center Locations.
  • Principal level requires minimum of 5 years of Mammography experience. Senior level requires minimum of 3 years of Mammography experience.
  • Ability to performs job duties in a reliable, responsible and timely fashion. 
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under any workload and/or patient volume.
  • Ability to be respectful of everyone, including those of different backgrounds, beliefs and gender.
  • Knowledge of Radiology Information System and related downtime procedure, to include the proper scheduling and completion of patient exams. 
  • Knowledge of the Medical Centers’ current Electronic Health record and ordering systems. 
  • Knowledge of the related Breast Imaging systems and selects the correct patient and exam from worklists. 
  • Knowledge of the Incident Reporting System
  • Leadership skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
  • ARRT (R) (M)
  • Prefer breast ultrasound experience
  • CRT Fluoroscopy License

 

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • CRT (M) Mammography Certification
  • CRT (R) Radiologic Technologist Certification
  • BLS Basic Life Support (CPR) Certification
  • Requires proof of mammography - specific training of at least 40 documented hours, if certified after April 27, 1999.
  • Requires proof of having performed at least 200 mammography exams in the last 24 months (rolling 24-month calendar)
  • Requires certificates of at least 15 CEU's in Mammography in the last 36-month period (rolling 36 month calendar).
  • Requires proof of MQSA approved 8 hours each of Digital and 3D Tomosynthesis training.
  • Proof of initial 25 supervised mammograms
