Senior Chemical Engineer

Position Summary

This position will play a key leadership role in the design, development, and optimization of industrial processes to turn raw materials into valuable products. You will combine your expertise in photolithography, acid chemistry, and metallurgy to deliver burr-free, stress-free micro-features that meet the stringent dimensional and biological requirements of life-critical medical devices. This role will include working with the operations, scheduling, customer service, and quality functions to successfully deliver orders on time while meeting quality and financial goals

Principle Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize the core photochemical machining workflow for titanium and its alloys: surface preparation/cleaning, photoresist coating, UV exposure/developing, chemical acid etching, and resist stripping.
• Establish chemical controls for chemical processes to maintain process capabilities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve feature defects, variations in etch factors, and surface roughness anomalies.
• Utilize CAD to create photo tools for new products and collaborate with team members to develop fixtures when necessary.
• Draft and execute IQ/OQ/PQ protocols for chemical processing equipment. Maintain rigorous documentation adhering to ISO 13485 and FDA 21 CFR Part 820 medical device standards.
• Ensure strict compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local environmental regulations regarding chemical handling, hazardous acid storage, exhaust ventilation, and wastewater treatment neutralization systems.
• Coordinate with customers to provide quotes for new engineering processes and product lines.
• Source new equipment to boost productivity or product quality. Write justifications and calculate ROI to make formal capital expenditure requests.

Qualification Requirements

Credentials/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 2 years of direct experience in photochemical etching (PCE/PCM), wet chemical processing, or semiconductor microfabrication. Direct experience etching titanium preferred.
• Strong foundation in photolithography, chemical kinetics, CAD, and statistical process control (SPC).
• Familiarity with medical device quality management systems (ISO 13485) is a major asset.
• Excellent analytical problem-solving skills, data-driven mindset, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional manufacturing and quality assurance teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• This position requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to perform effectively in a team environment.
• Strong process engineering skills including work piece control concepts, tolerance stacking, datum controls, and fixturing concepts. Requires the ability to design processes based on maximizing efficiency and quick changeovers
• Must be able to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing process issues, develop, and implement detailed project plans, develop and institute cost improvement programs, and be able to apply engineering and quality principles in support of manufacturing.
• Ability to read, interpret and utilize engineering drawings and electronic data for product and process development is required.
• Support Lean initiatives in day-to-day production processes.
• Knowledge of process validations, process mapping GD&T and process excellence is a definite plus.
