About this role

Why You’ll Love the Job: You’ll build the backend systems that power affordable, subscription-based healthcare for thousands of patients. You’ll own real services end-to-end — from design to production — and see your work directly shape how people access care. You’ll work closely with Product, Architecture, and Frontend in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where your technical decisions carry weight and your ideas matter.

Role Overview: We’re looking for a Software Engineer II who owns the development of well-scoped backend services and features that power Subscribili’s platform. You work independently on assigned problems, write production-grade Go, and partner with Product and senior engineers to turn requirements into reliable, well-tested systems.

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

This role is organized around five core areas. Each describes what we expect you to own and deliver.

Design & Development
  • Design and build complex, high-volume backend systems and APIs in Golang.

  • Decompose large, ambiguous problems into deliverable milestones for yourself and others.

  • Drive integrations across services, third parties, and data stores at a system level.

Code Quality & Testing
  • Define and enforce testing, code-quality, and review standards for the team.

  • Set the example for maintainable, well-documented, production-grade code.

  • Improve tooling and processes that raise overall code quality.

Architecture & Technical Direction
  • Own architecture for major systems; make and document high-impact design decisions and trade-offs.

  • Define backend engineering standards and patterns others build on.

  • Evaluate new technologies and lead technical strategy for your area.

Collaboration & Influence
  • Partner with Product and leadership to shape roadmaps and technical priorities.

  • Mentor and level up SDE-1/SDE-2 engineers; grow the team’s capability.

  • Drive alignment across teams on technical direction.

Operations, Reliability & Security
  • Own the reliability, scalability, and performance of systems handling high-volume transactions.

  • Lead incident response and drive post-incident improvements; champion observability.

  • Build security and data integrity into system design from the start; set practices for responsible data handling, including HIPAA/PHI.

Core Technical Skills:

The capabilities we expect you to bring to the role, grouped by area.

Languages & Foundations
  • Deep proficiency in Golang and its ecosystem.

  • Expert command of concurrency, goroutines, and channels.

  • Working knowledge of Python is a big plus.

AI-Assisted Development
  • Sets the bar for AI-assisted development on the pod — defines how and when AI tooling is used and what validation looks like before code ships.

  • Mentors others to treat AI output as a starting point, not an answer, and owns the quality and maintainability of AI-assisted work across the pod.

APIs & Distributed Systems
  • Proven experience with RESTful APIs and gRPC.

  • Strong experience designing microservices and distributed systems at scale.

Data Stores
  • Core: relational databases — PostgreSQL and/or MySQL, including data modeling for scale.

  • Nice to have: experience with DynamoDB (NoSQL) and/or Redis (caching) — a plus, not a requirement.

Cloud & Infrastructure
  • Deep experience operating production systems in the cloud (we run on AWS), with strong command of Docker, CI/CD, and Git.

  • Our backend runs on AWS Elastic Beanstalk and Lambda; specific experience with these isn’t required — a solid foundation in Docker and container orchestration transfers directly.

  • As our platform scales, we’re investing in container orchestration (ECS/EKS, Kubernetes); experience leading that kind of evolution is a strong plus.

Bonus Points:
  • Experience in healthcare, fintech, or analytics-driven platforms.

  • Familiarity with event tracking, system monitoring, and payment workflows.

  • Understanding of compliance, data privacy, or healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA/PHI).

Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: Attractive package based on your experience, skills, and impact.

  • Equity Options: Share in Subscribili’s growth and long term success.

  • Health and Wellness: Comprehensive health coverage for you and your family, including medical benefits, term insurance, and complimentary annual health checkups.

  • Office Meals: 2 meals per day provided in office to support convenience, collaboration, and team connection.

  • Onsite Role with Flexible Hours: This is a full time onsite role based in HSR Layout, Bangalore.

  • Generous Leave: Paid vacation, sick leave, and parental leave.

  • Learning and Growth: Access to courses, workshops, and leadership development opportunities.

  • Career Development: Opportunity to build and lead the People function as Subscribili scales.

  • Mission Driven Culture: Join a team that cares deeply about employees, patients, providers, and the future of affordable healthcare.
