Job Summary


As a Process Design Intern, you will support engineers and designers working on industrial process systems, equipment layouts, material and energy flows, and production-focused projects. You will gain hands-on exposure to technical design tools, project documentation, field conditions, multidisciplinary coordination, and project delivery while contributing to active assignments with guidance from experienced professionals.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist with process flow diagrams, P&IDs, calculations, equipment data, reports, and other project documentation. 
  • Support process equipment evaluation, system layouts, material and utility balances, and design coordination. 
  • Participate in project meetings, site visits, field observations, and collaboration with mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, and structural teams.

What You’ll Learn

  • How process design principles, engineering tools, codes, and technical standards are applied to industrial projects.
  • How process flows, equipment requirements, operating conditions, and design deliverables are developed and reviewed. 
  • How process designers coordinate safety, constructability, operations, and multidisciplinary project requirements.

Qualifications

Required

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Chemical, Mechanical, Process Engineering, or a related field.
  • Completion of relevant coursework in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, mass transfer, or process design. 
  • Basic understanding of process systems and engineering calculations. 
  • Basic proficiency with AutoCAD or similar design software and Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred

  • Internship, co-op, laboratory, or project experience related to industrial process design.
  • Familiarity with process simulation tools, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, or process safety concepts. 
  • Involvement in AIChE, ASME, or related professional organizations.
