About this role

Skillforce is hiring Journeyman level Pipefitters for a long-term infrastructure project inside an active tunnel in Chesapeake. VA This is a 2-year long project with a reputable industrial contractor paying $42.49/hour. As a Journeyman Pipefitter you are responsible for mechanical pipe fitting, no welding, no brazing, no systems work. You'll be fitting 12-inch stainless steel pipe in an underground tunnel environment. The work is repetitive and physical, not complex but it demands focus, reliability, and the ability to commit to a full day on site.

Journeyman level Pipefitters Site Conditions — Read Before Applying

This job operates inside a working tunnel. Once your crew departs each morning, you are on site for the full shift. There are no food trucks or nearby restaurants — bring your lunch. If this doesn't work for your lifestyle, this isn't the right fit. 

Journeyman Pipefitter Pay:

  • $42.49 per hour.
  • W-2 employment with weekly pay by direct deposit.

Journeyman Pipefitter Schedule:

  • Monday through Thursday, four 10 hour days.
  • Daily start time is 6 AM at the designated staging point.
  • Fridays are off on the standard schedule, and occasional Friday overtime is possible but not guaranteed.
  • Transportation from the staging point into the tunnel work zone is provided.

Journeyman Pipefitter Responsibilities:

  • You will fit and assemble 12-inch stainless steel pipe to drawings inside an underground tunnel.
  • You will handle mechanical fitting only, with no welding, no brazing, and no systems work in this scope.
  • You will work inside a controlled-access underground work zone, entering with the crew at the start of the shift and leaving when the crew returns at the end of the day.
  • You will hold a steady pace on repetitive, physical work that rewards focus and reliability over complexity.
  • You will support the material handling crew with staging and positioning pipe at the work face.

Journeyman Pipefitter Qualifications:

  • You have 5 or more years of journeyman level pipefitting experience.
  • You can lay out and fit large diameter pipe from mechanical drawings.
  • You are comfortable working underground in an enclosed work zone for a full shift, and you can bring your own meals and drinks because there are no food services near the work zone.
  • You have standard PPE including a chin strap hard hat, Level 3 cut-resistant gloves, and safety glasses.
  • You can pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, and you are authorized to work in the U.S.
