Pay Range: $23-$26
OVERVIEW:
The Assistant Cook works under the direction of the Kitchen Manager to help prepare and serve meals for clients, staff, volunteers, and Advisory Board members. Responsibilities include food preparation, dishwashing, and maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen and dining area.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist Kitchen Manager with food preparation and meal service
- Help keep the dining room clean, organized, and ready for guests
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout the kitchen, storage areas, and food service spaces
- Follow safe food handling, hygiene, and sanitation practices
- Clean, sanitize, and stores dishes, cookware, utensils, and kitchen equipment
- Helps maintain dishwashing equipment and treat with Delimer chemical twice a month
- Clean and sanitize sinks, counters, carts, racks, and other food service equipment
- Use cleaning tools and products appropriately to care for kitchen equipment
- Keep supplies, cookware, dishes, and utensils organized and properly stored
- Maintain beverage service equipment in a clean and sanitary condition
- Assist with cleaning and maintaining refrigerators, freezers, and other cold storage areas
- Help maintain clean work surfaces and floors throughout the day
- Communicate with food service and supply vendors as needed
- Other related duties as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Kitchen experience (required)
- Lead experience (preferred)
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)
- Availability to work weekends and additional hours during the holiday season as needed
- Ability to take initiative
- Able to maintain integrity and confidentiality
- Team player
- Able to meet and relate to the public
EQUIPMENT USED:
- Modern Office Equipment and Relevant Software
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (usually file boxes)
- Relevant kitchen and janitorial equipment
