About this role

Paid Per Assessment · Set Your Own Schedule · No Minimum Hours

Virginia Beach · Chesapeake · Norfolk

Already have a nursing job you like? Keep it. This is the work you pick up around it.

Right at Home of Hampton Roads is growing fast, and we're building a bench of experienced RNs to handle client assessments on a flexible, as-available basis. You take the visits you want, when you want them. You get paid for each assessment you complete. There are no shifts to cover, no hands-on personal care, no on-call rotation, and no minimum hours.

If you're a hospital, clinic, school, or case-management nurse looking to add meaningful income without adding another set of obligations to your week, this is built for you.

What The Work Actually Looks Like

You visit a client in their home, spend time with them and their family, assess their needs, and build the care plan that our caregiving team will follow. Most visits run about 60 to 90 minutes. You document, you submit, you're done — and you get paid for that visit.

•      New client assessments — Typically scheduled during business hours, since these often follow a family's decision to start services. We give you as much lead time as we can.

•      Follow-up and supervisory visits — Yours to schedule. Evenings, early mornings, a Saturday block — whatever fits your life. You coordinate directly with the client.

•      Change-of-condition reassessments — When a client's needs shift and the care plan needs to be updated.

Why Nurses Like This Role

•      Every completed assessment is paid. No clocking in, no waiting around, no productivity quota.

•      Take the visits that fit your week. Pass on the ones that don't. Say no without it being a problem.

•      No lifting, no transfers, no bedside tasks, no weekend call rotation, no floating to cover someone else.

•      You walk into a home, use your clinical judgment, and write the plan. Nobody looks over your shoulder.

•      Families remember the nurse who sat down, listened, and finally made the plan make sense. That's this visit.

•      A small office team that answers the phone, handles the scheduling logistics, and has your back when something comes up.

Your Responsibilities

•      Complete client assessments at admission, at change of condition, and at the intervals required by Virginia regulation.

•      Develop the individualized plan of care and revise it as the client's status and needs change.

•      Sit down with the client and family to talk through needs, expectations, and goals, and build the plan around what you learn.

•      Coordinate with the office and the assigned care team so the plan is understood and carried out correctly.

•      Communicate changes in the client's condition to the client's representative and the office; obtain physician's orders where required.

•      Coordinate with outside providers, discharge planners, and community health contacts as the case requires.

•      Document accurately and submit promptly in our electronic record system.

What You'll Need

•      Active RN license valid in Virginia (single-state or compact) and current CPR certification.

•      Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

•      Valid driver's license, a reliable insured vehicle, and willingness to travel within Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and Norfolk.

•      Strong assessment, observation, and written documentation skills.

•      Comfort with electronic medical records and everyday computer work.

•      Sound judgment, discretion with confidential information, and the self-direction to manage your own visits without daily supervision.

•      Genuine warmth with older adults and their families. The clinical part is teachable. This part isn't.

Nice to have, but not required:

•      One or more years in home care or home health.

•      Experience in geriatrics, case management, discharge planning, or hospice.

•      Instructor experience (CPR, AED, CNA training, etc.).

Pay & Scheduling

$90 per completed initial client assessment. $50 per follow-up or supervisory visit.  You're paid weekly — no waiting a month to see your money.

There is no minimum number of visits and no maximum. Some of our nurses take one or two a month. Others take several a week. You tell us your availability, we send you what comes in, and you accept what works.
