What is the opportunity?


As a key leader as part of the RBC Capital Markets COO Group Business Management team, you will lead and support our strategic efforts across businesses and functions. Our mandate is to drive strategic alignment, operational excellence, and governance to enable business performance. We’re seeking a highly skilled and seasoned professional to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be someone who excels at working independently while also possessing the ability to collaborate effectively with the team as needed. This role demands an individual with exceptional critical thinking skills and a strong capacity for independent decision making.

Please note that this is not a Finance role. This role is equivalent to a Senior Manager or Associate Director level.


What will you do?

As a core member, you’ll take the lead on a broad range of workforce strategy, financial management, executive reporting, and employee engagement & enablement initiatives. You will partner with senior leaders to translate firm strategy into operational priorities, monitor execution against strategic goals, and build organizational capability for sustainable performance improvement. You will operate independently on strategic planning while collaborating across functions on execution.

  • Be a trusted advisor to senior leaders and business partners by providing strategic advice and help cultivate P&E mindset and ensure strong linkage into plans, forecast, business strategy documents, PARs, business cases

  • Identify opportunities that are cross functional / “Horizontal” that will contribute to the strategic priorities / efforts

  • Demonstrate techniques to build consensus with differing views in a constructive manner and if applicable, applying appropriate escalation practices

  • Provide analysis of work completed and the outcomes effectively to executive audiences, using proper business, financial and functional language

  • Lead/manage workstreams and present deliverables within agreed-upon timelines

What you need to succeed?

Must-haves

  • The ability to demonstrate highly advanced proficiency and mastery in Excel and PowerPoint, including data analytics, with a particular emphasis on industry-leading storyboarding with the ability to create compelling presentations

  • The ability to create intuitive and visually stunning dashboards to allow Senior Leaders insight into their cost base

  • Comfort in fast-paced environments with high complexity and ambiguity – dealing often with deadlines in hours rather than days with a meticulous attention to detail

  • Post-graduate degree - MBA/EMBA, Masters in finance, economics, accounting or a similar field

  • Strategy or consulting experience in a Consulting Management, Financial Services, or Entrepreneurial environment, or other comparative experience

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in large transformational initiatives/programs focused on cost efficiency, productivity and continuous improvement

  • A proven track record of managing complex projects, utilizing key program management skills

  • Quantitative Analysis Experience (data analysis, financial/data modeling), including Python

  • Critical Thinking (proven capabilities to use careful evaluation and judgement), analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong relationship-building and leadership skills, including the ability to influence and bridge gaps between multiple stakeholder groups

  • Growth mindset, resting on a relentless appetite to learn, be challenged and develop new skills

  • High degree of organization and multi-tasking ability

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, prioritize and get things done

Nice-to-have

  • Masters in Finance, CPA, CFA, CMA or CA

  • Experience in Financial Management, Analysis and Planning, with strong Financial acumen and the ability to analyze and work with key business drivers (NIE, NIBT, RoE, etc.)

  • Experience in the RBC PAR process and annual business planning

  • Understanding of and experience with zero based budgeting / cost efficiency and agile methodology

  • Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends and apply knowledge of Capital Markets to enable decision making

  • Lead deep-dive business reviews (leveraging Zero Based Budgeting frameworks), and provide strategic direction to advise the business on key efficiency-related findings and support & influence the decision making process

  • Recognize business complexity and help facilitate trade-off decisions to prioritize appropriate actions to achieve productivity and efficiency goals

  • Identify risks/issues and provide solutions to minimize their impact on work stream timelines

  • Develop deep understanding of ongoing productivity & efficiency initiatives that impact the Capital Markets COO Group; promote culture of transparency around them, review benefit profiles ensuring initiatives are mobilizing and engage in monthly dashboard socialization/review
