As a Drilling Fluids Supervisor, you play a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of our drilling operations. This document outlines the expectations for your role to help you achieve success and contribute to the overall performance of our drilling team. MUST BE ABLE TO WORK 12 HOUR SHIFTS 14 DAYS ON/14 DAYS OFF; 24/7 ON-CALL WHILE ON DUTY.

Responsibilities

• Drilling Fluids Management
  • Oversee the selection, preparation, and maintenance of drilling fluids across all rigs.
  • Monitor and adjust drilling fluid properties in real-time to meet operational requirements and challenges.
  • Ensure drilling fluids comply with environmental regulations and minimize environmental impact.
• Coordination with Key Players
  • Collaborate closely with rig teams to understand drilling conditions and make timely adjustments to drilling fluids.
  • Provide guidance and training to rig personnel on the handling and application of drilling fluids when necessary.
  • Act as a liaison between the drilling operations team and vendors supplying drilling fluid materials.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to develop well designs that incorporate optimal fluid systems and minimize drilling challenges.
• Cost Control
  • Manage drilling fluid costs by optimizing formulations and minimizing waste.
  • Regularly review and adjust drilling fluid programs to ensure cost-effectiveness without compromising quality or safety.
• Quality Assurance
  • Conduct regular audits of drilling fluid systems to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Implement and maintain best practices in drilling fluid management, staying updated with industry advancements.
  • Address any deviations in drilling fluid performance promptly, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
• Safety and Environmental Compliance
  • Ensure that all drilling fluid and solids control operations comply with company safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and report any environmental incidents related to drilling fluids, taking immediate action to mitigate impact.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the drilling fluids team and across all rig operations.
• Communication and Reporting
  • Provide regular reports on drilling fluid performance, costs, and any issues encountered during drilling operations.
  • Keep the Drilling Superintendent and Drilling Operations Manager informed of any significant challenges or changes needed in the drilling fluid program.
  • Actively participate in meetings with the drilling team, offering insights and recommendations for improving drilling fluid performance.
• Procurement Collaboration
  • Work closely with the procurement team on all vendor bids for drilling fluids, ensuring that the selected vendors meet the company's quality, cost, and compliance standards.
• Leadership
  • Act as a leader in our operations, setting a positive example for others to follow and driving excellent in all aspects of drilling fluid management.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive team culture.

• KPI Compilation: Gather data on fluid costs, operational efficiency, safety incidents, environmental compliance, and other relevant metrics.
• Analysis: Regularly review these KPIs to identify trends, areas of improvement, and potential costsaving opportunities.
• Presentation: Prepare and present a summary of these KPIs to the drilling team during monthly and/or quarterly meetings. Presentations should include clear visual aids, actionable insights, and recommendations for improvement.

• Comprehensive Handover: Provide a detailed handover report to the relief at the end of each rotation, including the current status of drilling fluid programs, any ongoing issues, and tasks that need attention during the absence.
• Face-to-Face Meeting: Conduct a face-to-face meeting or a detailed call with the relief to discuss the handover report and ensure they fully understand the current state of operations.
• Documentation: Ensure all relevant documents and reports are up-to-date, accurate, and accessible to relief. All relevant KPI information needs to be documented and up-to-date prior to handover.

• In-Person Attendance: The Drilling Fluids Supervisor is required to attend all performance review meetings in person while on duty. These meetings are crucial for discussing performance, addressing any concerns, and setting goals for the upcoming period. Active participation and engagement are essential.

• Fluid Cost per Well: Track and reduce the cost of drilling fluids on a per-well basis.
• Operational Downtime Due to Fluids: Minimize any downtime caused by drilling fluid issues.
• Safety Incidents: Maintain a record of zero safety incidents related to drilling fluids.
• Environmental Compliance: Ensure full compliance with environmental regulations, with no violations.

• Stay Informed: Regularly attend industry workshops and training sessions to stay updated on the latest developments in drilling fluids technology.
• Mentorship: Take an active role in mentoring less experienced team members, sharing knowledge, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

• Proactive Updates: Keep the Drilling Superintendent and Drill Operations Manager informed of significant developments or challenges in real-time.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including drilling engineering, safety, and environmental compliance teams.
• Openness: If any issues arise or support is needed, the Supervisor should reach out immediately. The Drilling Operations Manager is there to support the team.

Education and Education:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. with 10+ years' experience in drilling oil and gas wells
• BS in Engineering Discipline with 5+ years' experience in drilling oil and gas wells

Professional Certifications/Training Required: Well Control Certificate

Oil & Gas Exp Required: Yes

Skills: Leadership skills, computer skills, Wellview reporting expert, knowledge of well operations & equipment, "downhole vision", troubleshooting and problem solving skills, strong mechanical aptitude, directional experience, good communication skills, prioritization skills, teamwork focused
