About this role

Professional Fundraiser - $20/hr Guaranteed + Daily Bonuses

$20/hr guaranteed + daily bonus opportunities | Regular pay reviews | 21-35 hours/week | Koreatown / Los Angeles | Paid training

Raise money for causes that matter. Build powerful communication skills. Develop experience you can turn into a career.

Public Outreach is growing our Los Angeles fundraising team and looking for outgoing, motivated people who want meaningful work, reliable pay, and the opportunity to build valuable professional skills.

You'll represent major nonprofit organizations working on human rights, humanitarian aid, civil liberties, environmental protection, social justice, and other important causes.

Depending on the campaign, our teams may represent organizations such as CARE, ACLU, Amnesty International, and other leading nonprofits.

No previous fundraising experience is required.

We'll teach you how to fundraise. We're looking for people who bring energy, curiosity, resilience, strong communication skills, and the willingness to learn.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

As a Professional Fundraiser, you'll work face-to-face with members of the public throughout Los Angeles.

You'll learn about the nonprofit campaign you're representing, explain the issue clearly and persuasively, build genuine conversations, and invite people to support the organization by becoming recurring monthly donors.

Your day may include:

  • Approaching and starting conversations with members of the public

  • Learning detailed information about your nonprofit campaign

  • Explaining complex issues in a clear and engaging way

  • Listening and responding to questions

  • Building rapport quickly

  • Asking people directly to become monthly supporters

  • Working alongside a fundraising partner and supportive team

  • Practicing your approach and applying regular coaching

  • Working toward clear fundraising goals

Fair warning: this is definitely not a desk job.

You'll spend much of your shift outdoors, walking, standing, and talking with people face-to-face.

Some conversations will go incredibly well.

Some people won't be interested.

You'll hear "no" regularly.

Successful fundraisers learn not to take rejection personally. They reset, adjust their approach, apply feedback, and keep going.

This Is Professional, Goal-Oriented Fundraising

Your $20/hour starting wage is guaranteed. You are not working on commission.

Fundraising performance still matters.

You'll receive paid training, ongoing coaching, and support from experienced team leaders, but you'll also be expected to work toward clear fundraising goals, apply feedback, remain reliable, and continue developing your skills.

If you're looking for a job where simply showing up is enough, this probably won't be the right fit.

If you enjoy improving at something, working toward measurable goals, receiving feedback, and seeing your results get better over time, you may really enjoy the challenge.

Work on Causes That Matter

Depending on your campaign, you may have conversations about issues including:

  • Human and civil rights

  • Immigrant and refugee rights

  • Reproductive rights

  • LGBTQ+ and trans rights

  • Racial and social justice

  • Humanitarian aid

  • Communities affected by war, conflict, displacement, and humanitarian crises

  • Environmental protection and conservation

  • Animal welfare

  • Poverty reduction and community development

These can be personal, complicated, or politically charged conversations.

You don't need a background in politics, advocacy, or nonprofit work.

You do need to be willing to learn about these issues, discuss them respectfully, and represent the nonprofit campaign accurately.

For someone interested in nonprofit work, advocacy, communications, public policy, community organizing, fundraising, or other people-focused careers, there is a lot here to learn.

Our Office Is in Koreatown - But the City Is Your Workplace

We have a Los Angeles office in Koreatown, where most of our fundraising teams meet before heading out into the city together.

Depending on the campaign and team, some fundraisers may meet directly in the field.

Our teams work at changing outreach locations throughout Los Angeles, giving you the opportunity to experience different neighbourhoods and communities rather than reporting to the same desk every day.

You won't be sent out to fundraise alone.

You'll work alongside a fundraising partner or team, travelling together, supporting one another, and learning the city along the way.

You need to be able to reliably get to your team's meeting point and be comfortable travelling to different fundraising locations throughout LA.

Build More Than a Paycheck

This can be a part-time job, a stepping stone into the nonprofit sector, or the beginning of a long-term career.

Along the way, you'll build practical experience in:

  • Nonprofit fundraising

  • Donor engagement

  • Advocacy

  • Public speaking

  • Persuasive communication

  • Storytelling

  • Community outreach

  • Relationship-building

  • Handling objections

  • Goal setting

  • Coaching and feedback

  • Leadership

These are skills that can strengthen your resume whether you want to grow at Public Outreach or eventually move into nonprofit work, advocacy, communications, community organizing, sales, management, or another people-focused career.

We Don't Just Hire Fundraisers - We Build Future Leaders

Every leader at Public Outreach has been promoted from within.

They started as fundraisers themselves, learned how to connect with the public and consistently reach their goals, then developed the skills to train, coach, and lead other people.

If you perform well and want to grow, you'll have opportunities to take on more responsibility and advance.

Your development does not stop after training. We believe in regular coaching, feedback, pay reviews, and giving strong performers opportunities to keep progressing.

$20/hr Is Your Starting Wage - Not Your Earning Ceiling

  • $20/hour guaranteed starting wage

  • Daily performance bonus opportunities

  • Regular pay reviews

  • Performance-based raises

  • Paid training from day one

  • Approximately 21-35 hours per week

  • Full-time and part-time opportunities

  • Health, dental, and vision benefits for eligible full-time employees and their families after 3 months

  • Paid time off

  • Employee Assistance Program

  • Opportunities to advance into training and leadership roles

Bonuses are additional to your guaranteed hourly wage. Your base pay is not dependent on the number of donors you sign up.

Schedule

We offer multiple schedule options across the week.

All team members must be able to commit to at least 3 complete 7-hour shifts per week - a minimum of 21 hours.

Current shift times generally include:

  • 10:00 AM-5:00 PM

  • 12:00 PM-7:00 PM

  • Earlier starts may sometimes be available on weekends

Shift options and schedules can change depending on campaign and operational needs.

We offer both full-time and part-time opportunities, but we do require a consistent weekly commitment.

Applicants must be available for full shifts. Partial shifts generally cannot be accommodated.

Who We're Looking For

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Are naturally social and comfortable starting conversations with strangers

  • Communicate clearly and confidently

  • Care about humanitarian, environmental, human rights, animal welfare, or social justice causes

  • Are motivated by goals and like seeing yourself improve

  • Can stay positive after hearing "no"

  • Are comfortable receiving regular feedback and coaching

  • Are reliable and take your commitments seriously

  • Enjoy working with other people

  • Like being active and would rather be out in the world than behind a desk

  • Want to build experience you can use in your future career

Experience in fundraising, canvassing, hospitality, customer service, retail, sales, advocacy, community organizing, volunteering, performance, public speaking, or other public-facing work can translate well to this role.

But experience isn't required.

You don't need to check every box.

If you like people, care about making a difference, can handle a challenge, and are motivated to improve, we'd love to hear from you.

Come As You Are

We want this to be a workplace where people can actually be themselves.

Our teams include members of the LGBTQ+ community, and creating an environment where people feel safe, respected, supported, and welcome is genuinely important to us.

We know that people from underrepresented communities often have to think carefully about whether a workplace will genuinely respect who they are.

Queer and trans applicants are welcome here. Applicants from underrepresented communities are encouraged to apply.

We want people with different identities, backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives on our teams. Discrimination, harassment, homophobia, transphobia, racism, or other forms of disrespect have no place in our workplace.

You don't need to fit a certain mold to build a career here.

Come as you are, bring your perspective, and be ready to learn.

Before You Apply

  • You must be 18+

  • You must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship

  • You must be able to consistently work at least 3 complete 7-hour shifts per week

  • You must be available for full shifts rather than partial-day availability

  • You should be comfortable working outdoors, standing, and walking for much of your shift

  • You should be comfortable starting conversations with members of the public throughout the day

  • You should be comfortable travelling with your team to changing fundraising locations throughout Los Angeles

  • You need to be able to communicate confidently in English

  • You should be comfortable receiving feedback and working toward measurable fundraising goals

What Happens Next?

We're actively interviewing and looking for candidates who can start soon.

Selected applicants will receive an invitation by email and text to meet our team and learn more about the position.

We want you to understand what face-to-face fundraising is actually like before you commit.

Successful candidates may begin paid training shortly after completing the interview process.
