About this role

Fundraiser - $20/hr Guaranteed + Daily Bonuses - Great for Creatives
$20/hr guaranteed + daily bonus opportunities | 21-35 hours/week | Los Angeles | Paid training
Use your voice for something that matters. Build powerful communication skills. Work with a team of passionate, mission-driven people.
We're hiring fundraisers in Los Angeles to represent major nonprofit organizations working on human rights, humanitarian aid, civil liberties, environmental protection, social justice, and other important causes.
This role can be an especially strong fit for actors, comedians, musicians, dancers, writers, students, recent graduates, and other creative people who are comfortable expressing ideas, reading a room, thinking on their feet, and connecting with new people.
Fundraising and performance have more in common than you might expect.
You'll use storytelling, improvisation, active listening, confidence, and persuasive communication every day - while earning a guaranteed hourly wage and supporting nonprofit campaigns that matter.
No fundraising experience is required. We provide paid training and ongoing coaching.
The Causes You'll Talk About
Depending on your campaign, you may represent nonprofit organizations such as CARE, ACLU, Amnesty International, and other leading advocacy and humanitarian organizations.
Your conversations may involve issues such as:
Human and civil rights
Immigrant and refugee rights
LGBTQ+ and trans rights
Reproductive rights
Racial and social justice
Humanitarian aid
Communities affected by conflict, displacement, and humanitarian crises
Environmental protection and conservation
Animal welfare
Poverty reduction and community development
Campaign assignments can change depending on the needs of our nonprofit partners.
You do not need previous activism or nonprofit experience. You do need to be genuinely comfortable learning about important issues, discussing them respectfully, and representing the nonprofit campaign accurately.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
This is face-to-face fundraising.
You'll work in communities throughout Los Angeles, starting conversations with members of the public, explaining the nonprofit campaign you're representing, and inviting people to support that work by becoming monthly donors.
A typical shift includes:
Starting conversations with people you've never met
Learning and communicating the nonprofit campaign
Using storytelling to explain why the issue matters
Listening, answering questions, and building genuine rapport
Asking people directly to become recurring monthly donors
Working alongside a fundraising partner and supportive team
Practicing your approach and receiving regular coaching
Working toward clear fundraising goals
Some people will be excited to speak with you.
Some will ignore you.
Some will say no.
Fundraising takes confidence, resilience, and the ability to reset and try again.
Your $20/hour starting wage is guaranteed, but fundraising performance still matters. You'll receive training, support, and coaching while working toward clear individual and team goals.
Why Creatives Often Thrive Here
If you're used to performing, presenting, improvising, telling stories, or connecting with an audience, you're already bringing skills that translate well to fundraising.
We've had successful team members from a wide range of creative and performing arts backgrounds, including people who have studied at schools such as USC, UCLA, CalArts, AMDA, and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
You'll build practical skills in:
Public speaking
Storytelling
Persuasive communication
Reading a room
Thinking on your feet
Handling objections
Building confidence
Community outreach
Goal setting
Coaching and feedback
Leadership
These are skills you can take well beyond this job.
Where You'll Work
We have an office in Koreatown, but the city is your workplace.
Most of our Los Angeles fundraising teams meet at our Koreatown location before heading out into the city together. Depending on the campaign and team, some fundraisers may meet directly in the field.
Our teams fundraise in different communities and neighbourhoods throughout Los Angeles, so the location can change from day to day.
You won't be sent out to fundraise alone. You'll work alongside a fundraising partner or team, travelling together, supporting one another, and getting to know different parts of LA along the way.
If you enjoy being out in the world, meeting new people, exploring different parts of the city, and having a workday that rarely looks exactly the same twice, you'll probably enjoy the environment.
Schedule
We know many of our team members have lives and goals outside of work.
This role can work well alongside auditions, rehearsals, classes, freelance work, creative projects, or other commitments - as long as you can give us a consistent weekly schedule.
Team members must be able to commit to at least 3 complete 7-hour shifts per week - a minimum of 21 hours.
Current shift times generally include:
10:00 AM-5:00 PM
12:00 PM-7:00 PM
Earlier starts may sometimes be available on weekends
Shift options and schedules can change depending on the campaign and needs of the team.
We require availability for full shifts. Partial shifts generally cannot be accommodated.
$20/hr Is Your Starting Wage - Not Your Earning Ceiling
$20/hour guaranteed starting wage
Daily performance bonus opportunities on top of your hourly pay
Regular pay reviews
Performance-based raises
Paid training from day one
Approximately 21-35 hours per week
Full-time and part-time opportunities
Health, dental, and vision benefits for eligible full-time employees and their families after 3 months

Opportunities to move into training and leadership roles
You are not working on commission. Bonuses are additional earning opportunities on top of your guaranteed hourly wage.
We Build Future Leaders
Every leader at Public Outreach has been promoted from within.
Our leaders started as fundraisers themselves. They learned how to connect with people, handle rejection, reach goals, coach others, and eventually lead teams.
If you perform well and want to grow, there are opportunities to take on more responsibility, develop leadership skills, help train others, and advance.
Whether you build a long-term career with Public Outreach or eventually take your experience somewhere else, you'll gain resume-worthy experience in nonprofit fundraising, advocacy, communication, donor engagement, public speaking, and leadership.
Who Tends to Thrive Here
You may be a strong fit if you:
Enjoy talking with new people
Communicate with warmth, confidence, and personality
Are expressive, curious, and comfortable thinking on your feet
Care about nonprofit, humanitarian, environmental, human rights, animal welfare, or social justice causes
Can handle hearing "no" without losing your motivation
Are comfortable receiving feedback and trying a different approach
Like having measurable goals to work toward
Enjoy active work more than sitting behind a desk
Are dependable and can commit to full shifts
Want to build your communication, confidence, and leadership skills
Experience in acting, improv, comedy, music, dance, hospitality, restaurants, customer service, retail, fundraising, advocacy, volunteering, organizing, public speaking, or sales can translate especially well to this work.
But experience is not required.
We're much more interested in your communication skills, personality, curiosity, resilience, reliability, and willingness to learn.
Come As You Are
We want this to be a workplace where people can actually be themselves.
Our teams include members of the LGBTQ+ community, and creating a space where people feel safe, respected, supported, and welcome is genuinely important to us.
We know that people from underrepresented communities often have to think carefully about whether a workplace will genuinely respect who they are.
Queer and trans applicants are welcome here. Applicants from underrepresented communities are encouraged to apply.
We want people with different identities, backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives on our teams. Discrimination, harassment, homophobia, transphobia, racism, or other forms of disrespect have no place in our workplace.
You don't need to fit a certain mold to work here.
Bring your personality, your perspective, and a willingness to learn.
Before You Apply
You must be 18+
