About this role

Overview

The Maintenance Fitter is responsible for maintaining, repairing and improving machinery and equipment to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations. This includes diagnosing faults, performing mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic repairs, completing planned maintenance, supporting equipment installation and commissioning, and accurately documenting maintenance activities.


Responsibilities

  • Diagnose faults and repair machinery, equipment and mechanical systems.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance according to maintenance schedules.
  • Perform mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic repairs safely and effectively.
  • Dismantle, fit, assemble and align machinery, parts and equipment.
  • Support installation, commissioning and handover of new or repaired equipment.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, manuals and schematics.
  • Investigate equipment failures and recommend improvements to reduce breakdowns.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with safety, quality and housekeeping standards.
  • Record maintenance work, repairs, spares used and feedback accurately.
  • Work with production, engineering and maintenance teams to improve machine reliability.

Qualifications

  1. Matric / Grade 12
  2. Fitter Trade Test Certificate or recognised mechanical artisan qualification
  3. 3–5 years’ post-trade experience in a manufacturing or maintenance environment
  4. Experience with mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  5. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals
  6. Basic welding, fitting, assembly and alignment skills
  7. Knowledge of OHSA and safe working practices
  8. Computer literacy or basic maintenance system experience would be advantageous
