PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

Must be able to assist in crisis management interventions, administer CPR/First Aid, and assist individuals with mobility issues as needed.

QUALIFICATION

High School diploma or GED; Experience supporting individuals with a psychiatric or intellectual disability, paid or unpaid, is preferred; Pennsylvania approved certification as a peer specialist, WRAP Certification preferred; Able to use an Electronic Health Record; History of receiving behavioral health services

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  1. Provide training and assist in orientation of new employees to help staff understand and accept the concept of recovery and be supportive of a peer culture that promotes recovery
  2. Educate service participants to the concept of recovery
  3. Educate and engage service participants in the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) process
  4. Facilitate self help groups for residents with behavioral health issues
  5. Co-facilitate resident community meetings to nurture a peer support culture
  6. Assist in the development and implementation of any other educational and support groups deemed beneficial by the program 
  7. Assist residents in developing and practicing skills defined on their individual service plan. This may include accompanying residents to appointments, social activities and/or job opportunities, chores, and other activities of daily living.
  8. Link residents to community peer support to promote integration 
  9. Model and promote self advocacy
  10. Share own experiences as a person in recovery and encourage residents to share their own experiences
  11. Keep the treatment team and supervisors informed of all potential problematic situations/concerns/issues, in addition to residents’ strengths and achievements
  12. Actively participate in team meetings to ensure a recovery perspective is a key component of all discussions
