We seek a Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner to join our team.

The Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner role at Albuquerque ER & Hospital is crucial. You will promote and restore patients' health through comprehensive medical care, including direct assessment, diagnosis, prescribing medication, and ordering appropriate testing. You will also collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team members, provide physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families, and supervise assigned team members. As a role model, you will promote our hospital's values, a positive work environment, and efficient, quality patient care. You will also ensure adherence to Hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Duties:

• POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs.
• PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings, and workshops
• Examine patients and review medical history upon admission.
• Provide immediate treatment when necessary.
• Collaborate with Emergency Room Physicians and staff to determine up-to-date treatment options.
• Make daily rounds and adjust treatment as needed.
• Participate in MEC, PNT, and any other committees as assigned.
• Perform follow-up calls on all observations and inpatients.
• Assist with culture follow-up with the Pharmacy.
• Participate in ER Follow-up calls as needed, based on volume.
• Maintain office hours from 0800-1200 daily, Monday- Friday.
• Identify patient care needs by building rapport with potential and current patients and others who can help understand those needs.
• Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
• Set patient care goals; teach patients, friends, and family to understand their conditions, medications, and self-care skills; and answer questions to promote the patient's independence.
• Ensure quality care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; and following hospital and medical division policies, philosophies, and standards of care set by the state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
• Resolve patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
• Maintain a safe, clean work environment by complying with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, and by requesting assistance from health care support personnel.
• Initiate, follow, perform, and evaluate laboratory procedures.
• Adhere to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations to protect patients and employees.
• Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
• Maintain continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
• Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential and medical records complete and accurate.
• Ensure equipment operation by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following the manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
• Maintain nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory levels, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting supply orders, verifying receipt of supplies, and using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
• Maintain a cooperative relationship among healthcare teams by communicating information, responding to requests, building rapport, and participating in team problem-solving methods.
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team by implementing and documenting individualized plans of care that incorporate age-specific considerations and nursing interventions, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching.
• Identify changes in patient conditions and assist with or initiate appropriate actions promptly.
• ALWAYS follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Encourage patients and families to actively participate in their care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations they don’t understand or may “not seem right.”
• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

• 5 + years of nursing experience; acute care experience and certification a plus
• BSN and NP Master’s Degree

Licenses / Certifications:

• Current RN and NP license
• Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of New Mexico or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by the State of New Mexico.
• Current certifications in CPR, ACLS, and PALS

Preferred Qualifications:

• Education: BSN and NP Master’s Degree, Doctorate of Nursing Practice, and Acute Care NP.
• Work Experience: Bilingual English/Spanish
