About this role

NOV Process & Flow Technologies AS is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specialized in Agentic AI to join the Global Engineering Disciplines team. Based flexibly near our Fornebu offices, you will report to the Director of Global Engineering Disciplines and drive the creation of intelligent autonomous agents that automate engineering, operational, and business workflows across our energy, industrial, and offshore solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement autonomous AI agents capable of multi‑step reasoning, tool calling, workflow orchestration, and human‑in‑the‑loop decision support.
  • Develop scalable AI services using frameworks such as OpenAI APIs, LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, and Semantic Kernel.
  • Build Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines and vector‑database knowledge management solutions.
  • Integrate AI agents with enterprise applications, ERP/CRM systems, and process data platforms.
  • Create production‑grade software using Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, FastAPI, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud‑native architectures.
  • Implement robust testing, monitoring, observability, and security practices for AI workloads.
  • Establish AI governance frameworks covering evaluation, safety controls, hallucination mitigation, and compliance.
  • Prototype emerging technologies in LLMs, reinforcement learning, knowledge graphs, and autonomous workflows.
  • Collaborate with process engineers, automation specialists, and business stakeholders to deliver measurable value.
  • Define reusable AI architecture standards and contribute to NOV’s strategic AI roadmap.
  • Develop non-AI related software making use of AI tools for development, testing, implementation, maintenance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI, or related field.
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • 2+ years developing AI/ML applications in production, including LLM‑powered solutions.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and modern software architecture/design patterns.
  • Hands‑on experience with OpenAI, Anthropic, or comparable LLM platforms.
  • Experience with agent frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, or CrewAI.
  • Proficiency in vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate, Chroma, Azure AI Search) and RAG systems.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience integrating AI solutions into enterprise environments and building APIs/microservices.
  • Preferred: background in industrial, energy, offshore, or process‑systems domains and familiarity with digital twins or advanced analytics.

What we offer

  • The opportunity to shape and drive AI innovation across a global engineering organization.
  • Ownership of high-impact projects, with the autonomy to turn ideas into production solutions that deliver measurable business value.
  • A collaborative environment where new technologies are encouraged, tested, and rapidly adopted rather than constrained by lengthy development cycles.
  • The chance to work alongside experienced engineering, automation, and digital specialists while solving real-world challenges in the energy and industrial sectors.
  • Excellent opportunities for professional growth, technical leadership, and visibility across NOV as you help define the future of AI-enabled engineering.
