Newmont’s Merian operation in Suriname is an open pit gold mine approximately 66km south of the town Moengo and 30 km north of the Nassau Mountains near the French Guiana. Newmont owns a 75 percent interest in the limited partnership and Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V., Suriname’s state-owned oil company, owns the remaining 25 percent interest.

As part of our team you will

In this role, the individual will:

  • Plan and monitor comprehensive maintenance plans and schedules for equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to assess and implement maintenance activities effectively.
  • Assess the performance of assets, using data analytics and KPIs to diagnose trends and areas for improvement.
  • Apply strategies and standard methodologies to improve asset performance, prolong equipment life, and minimize maintenance costs.
  • Adhere to all maintenance activities in alignment with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Diagnose potential risks associated with fixed plant assets and formulate mitigation strategies to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Handle the budget for fixed plant maintenance and asset management activities, ensuring effective cost control and resource allocation.
  • Execute regular financial reviews and refine plans as needed to stay within budgetary constraints.
  • Responsible for identifying significant risks, implementing risk reduction strategies, and conducting ongoing risk assessments to ensure the safety, security, and operational capability of the assigned plant.
  • Collaborate with contractors to ensure compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and contractual obligations, while aligning with organizational goals.
Prerequisites for your success in this role

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in industrial plant maintenance, preferably in mining or heavy industry environments.
Strong technical expertise in the maintenance and reliability of crushers, conveyors, and SAG mills.
Experience with preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
Knowledge of equipment troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Familiarity with CMMS systems (SAP PM, Maximo, or similar) is preferred.
Fluent English (written and spoken) is required; Dutch language skills are preferred.

Working Conditions

This position is located at Merian, at the project sites. Merian is a remote site located in a warm, humid tropical rainforest environment
The Merian mine is located in Northeastern Suriname, approximately 98 kilometers southeast of the capital city of Paramaribo and 60 kilometers south of Moengo.
Accommodation is in a camp/village environment near the workplace under a rotational roster (6 weeks on site and 3 weeks off) with additional work time as required to meet operational commitments.
Suriname has a tropical climate with dry and two rainy seasons with anticipated tropical rainfall of 1.5m to 2.5m of rain per year.
