NeuroBionics, an MIT neurotechnology spinout, is developing novel implantable devices that interface seamlessly with the human body to treat neurological conditions. Leveraging over a decade of innovation, we have engineered a novel neural interface using microscale, flexible, bioelectronic fibers that can be delivered into the body through minimally invasive endovascular approaches. By making neural interfacing a minimally invasive procedure, we aim to revolutionize deep brain stimulation and broaden access to life-changing neuromodulation therapies to millions of patients.
About the Role:
NeuroBionics is hiring a Manufacturing Technician to be a reliable, high-quality pair of hands for both our clinical device builds and our IO research fiber. You'll build clinical-grade devices to spec, run in-process and receiving inspections with rigor, and learn our IO fiber manufacturing process well enough to support our R&D team as they work to improve its quality and yield. Beyond building and inspecting, you'll support functional testing of the IO fiber and flex into building R&D prototypes and fixturing when manufacturing needs ease.
This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in disciplined execution, is comfortable working independently, and takes initiative to bring value across the full manufacturing cycle. High-level hand skills and attention to detail are table stakes for this role. This position will be on-site at our locations in Somerville, MA & Cambridge, MA.
Duties and responsibilities
Medical Device Assembly:
Independently perform high-skill builds and tricky assembly/integration steps to spec
Maintain high yield and low rework at the team’s quality bar
Maintain critical documentation including work orders/travelers
Keep parts organized, labelled, and clearly documented.
IO Research Fiber Build and Support:
Assemble our multifunctional fiber into functional devices with optical, electrical, and fluidic connections
Inspect and test each device for quality and functionality
Support the research team as we improve the manufacturing process by flagging challenging steps and tracking yields.
Quality and Inspection:
Perform incoming and in-process inspection per documented methods
Document clearly and catch defects early
Maintain a quality-first mindset that focuses on building with precision within the confines of a regulated quality environment - following WOs, WIs, maintenance schedules, non-conformance procedures, etc.
R&D Build Support:
When a manufacturing push winds down, pivot to building prototypes under the direction of the R&D team and build inventory so R&D can iterate
Be the manufacturing resource that keeps engineers focused on R&D instead of fabrication, staying productively engaged through quieter stretches.
Qualifications:
Required:
~2–5 years of hands-on manufacturing experience, ideally in medical devices or similarly regulated physical products (e.g. aerospace).
Exceptional hand skills and fine manual dexterity, including experience with assembly of small components.
Experience following SOPs and filling out work orders, travelers, and controlled quality documentation.
High attention to detail and strong follow-through — build quality is non-negotiable, and you'd rather slow down than ship a sloppy unit.
Integrity and transparency: reports mistakes immediately, with no hidden rework.
Comfortable working independently without constant oversight, while staying coachable and open to continuous improvement.
Capable of working on a cleanroom manufacturing floor, which frequently requires standing for long periods, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, and significant time working under a microscope.
Preferred
Associate degree in a technical/engineering field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
Experience manufacturing catheters, endoscopes or Class II/III implantable medical devices.
Experience working in a controlled environment (cleanroom, contamination control, ESD).
Experience handling and assembling small parts with tweezers under a microscope.
Familiarity with basic quality workflows (nonconformances, rework vs. scrap, quarantines/holds, lot/serial traceability).
Experience running reliability / verification tests (environmental/aging/soak, mechanical, electrical).
Lean Manufacturing or 6 Sigma training
