The Press Assistant role provides hands-on training in lithographic printing and press operations while preparing employees for future advancement opportunities within the organization. This position works directly alongside experienced Press Operators and plays a critical role in keeping production running safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Career Growth at MCC

This role is designed as a development position for future Press Operators. New team members receive hands-on training with experienced operators and subject matter experts while learning press operations, troubleshooting techniques, equipment maintenance, and production processes. As skills develop, employees gain increased responsibility and exposure to advanced press operations.

What You'll Do

As a Press Assistant, you'll support lithographic press operations and help ensure materials, equipment, and supplies are available to keep production moving efficiently.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist Press Operators during production runs
  • Stage and transport paper rolls, inks, coatings, and production materials
  • Support press setups, changeovers, and make-ready activities
  • Monitor print quality and identify basic printing defects
  • Remove defective material and perform roll splicing according to specifications
  • Handle finished rolls and palletize products to prevent damage
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance and equipment upkeep
  • Lubricate equipment and assist with troubleshooting production issues
  • Operate forklifts, clamp trucks, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment as needed
  • Record production information and complete required documentation
  • Support safety, quality, and productivity goals throughout the department

 

This position offers exposure to press operations, machine troubleshooting, quality systems, and production workflows that prepare employees for future operator-level responsibilities. ,

 

What We're Looking For

Successful candidates are self-motivated, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

 

Required Experience

  • Printing pressroom experience, offset printing preferred
  • Manufacturing, warehouse, or machine operation experience
  • Forklift, Pallet Jack, Clamp truck experience
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
  • Experience with machine setups, changeovers, or preventative maintenance
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Frequent use of hands and arms throughout the shift
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to safely operate material handling equipment
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and balancing
  • Ability to distinguish colors and identify print quality issues accurately
