About the Role:

The Press Secretary of the Executive Office of Economic Development works closely with the Acting Director of Communications to assist with the coordination of communications, social media, and press outreach across the secretariat, the planning and execution of public events involving EOED and the Governor’s Office, and the preparation of briefing documents for the Secretary or Governor’s Office as needed.

The Press Secretary coordinates their activities with the Acting Director of Communications on all matters. The incumbent will have access to confidential material/information that must be safeguarded at all times, including when spearheading the development of press releases for agency programs and events and developing key messages for social media. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to and initiate EOED media inquiries, ensuring a consistent Administration message and coordinated response.
  • Prepare drafts of remarks, speeches, talking points and press releases, as requested by the Secretary and Governor’s Office or Lieutenant Governor’s Office when directed by those offices.
  • Coordinate all activities with the Governor’s or Lt. Governor’s communications staff on matters related to EOED.
  • Support EOED events that include the Secretary, Governor, and/or Lt. Governor. Draft communications materials for events in coordination with the Acting Director of Communications.
  • Participate in relevant policy or strategy meetings and draft documents as requested.
  • Produce end of day reports and other internal communications documents.
  • Assist with social media content creation, including drafting captions, graphics and gathering of photos and video during EOED events. 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Outstanding writing skills.
  • Ability to write under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to clearly summarize and communicate complex programs and issues.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and engender trust within the media community.
  • Understanding of social media.
  • Basic graphic design skills (Canva and/or Adobe Suite).
  • Ability to learn quickly.
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships internally and external.
