MercerDescription:
We are seeking a talented individual to join our Health and Benefits team, part of our People and Investments business at Marsh. This role will be based in any of our Northeast office locations, including Boston, Connecticut, New York City, New Jersey, and Philadelphia. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
As a Sr. Principal Lead Health & Benefits Consultant, you will be a strategic partner to large-market employer clients (2,000+ lives), advising on medical, dental, life, and disability programs. You will act as the subject-matter expert, negotiate with carriers and vendors to secure health and welfare coverage, and serve as the primary consultant and relationship leader for your clients. A core part of this role is driving business growth — identifying opportunities, expanding client relationships, and shaping Marsh's H&B offerings for the future.
We will count on you to:
Lead complex, strategic client engagements, overseeing service delivery, financial evaluations, plan design, renewals, placements, benchmarking, and targeted studies.
Develop innovative benefits design and renewal strategies that solve complex client challenges and differentiate Marsh in the market.
Create tools, methodologies, and scalable solutions to address client needs and support the practice’s growth.
Define the full scope of services for engagements and set clear roles and responsibilities across client teams.
Communicate Marsh's strategic perspective on industry trends and emerging solutions to clients and internal stakeholders.
Own revenue and profitability for assigned accounts and projects; proactively identify and pursue growth opportunities.
Track project success against scope, budget, schedule, and client satisfaction metrics.
Generate new business by expanding existing client relationships and leading targeted prospecting and pursuit efforts.
Shape strategic direction and create demand for new products and services that advance Marsh's H&B practice.
What you need to have:
BA/BS degree required.
Minimum of 12+ years’ experience designing, recommending, and implementing creative, effective health & benefits solutions for large employers.
Recognized expertise and strong reputation in the health & benefits field.
Proven client-facing experience in a consulting environment.
Valid Life & Health license.
What makes you stand out?
Demonstrated success in driving revenue growth and acquiring new business within health & benefits.
Strong, innovative sales and marketing skills with the ability to position Marsh's capabilities and win in the marketplace.
Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, with experience using data to shape strategy and demonstrate impact.
Clear strategic thinking, superior communication, and active listening skills.
Proven leadership and project management experience delivering large, complex engagements and leading cross-functional teams.
Why join our team:
Play a central role in growing a leading H&B practice and shaping its future direction.
We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work and supportive leaders.
We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have impact for colleagues, clients and communities.
Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities, as well as benefits and rewards to enhance your well-being.
The applicable base salary range for this role is $150,000 to $225,500.
The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
