About this role
Position Summary
The Welder / Fitter fabricates and assembles aluminum and steel tank, pressure-vessel, and tanker-trailer components in accordance with engineering drawings, work orders, welding procedures, quality standards, and production schedules. The position lays out, fits, aligns, tacks, and completes welds on components such as shells, heads, flanges, valves, piping, and structural parts. Success requires safe work practices, accurate measurement, attention to detail, dependable productivity, and effective teamwork.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, vessel drawings, work orders, weld symbols, and welding instructions to determine layout, dimensions, materials, and sequence of work.
- Accurately use tape measures and other measuring devices; apply basic shop math and geometry.
- Lay out, position, align, fit, clamp, tack, and weld aluminum or steel components to specified tolerances.
- Fit tank and vessel parts, including heads, shells, flanges, valves, piping, and structural components, using jacks, come-alongs, clamps, clips, wedges, and hand tools.
- Perform tack and full-seam welding in required positions using approved processes and procedures; complete weld tests as required for assignment.
- Operate welding machines, torches, grinders, and electric or pneumatic hand tools.
- Safely use overhead cranes, hoists, rigging, and forklifts to position materials and prepare work areas; obtain required certifications when assigned.
- Inspect fit-up and completed welds for accuracy, appearance, and conformity to drawings, procedures, and quality standards; correct defects as directed.
- Follow production schedules and complete assignments accurately and on time.
- Comply with all safety rules, confined-space procedures, personal protective equipment requirements, and equipment operating practices.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and properly care for tools and equipment.
- Work independently and collaboratively, follow instructions, and adapt to design or process changes.
- Perform other related fabrication, assembly, repair, or production duties as assigned.
