By joining our Covington Section Office as a Transportation Engineering Technologist Ill in Kenton County, you'll have the opportunity to complete a variety of complex technical engineering projects including plans, proposals, specifications, and addenda.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Reviews, coordinates, and inspects the work of sub-professionals on survey operations.
  • Coordinates with consultants or contractors on specialized programs.
  • Provides expertise in construction projects for Covington Section Office.
  • Research deed, calculate areas and write descriptions of right-of-way to be acquired.
  • Compiles and interprets data necessary for the development of roadway plans.
  • Acts as survey chief and, or, operates survey equipment to collect necessary information for the development of roadway plans.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, computer science, data science, geology, earth science, industrial technology, industrial drafting, design technology or construction technology. OR Graduate with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of engineering-related experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: 1. Possess a valid EIT certification issued by the Kentucky State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors
OR
2. Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree OR an associate degree in an engineering field
OR
3. High school
OR
4. High school

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: 1. Must have four years of engineering-related experience with the first education option above;
OR
2. Must have seven years of engineering-related experience with the second education option above;
OR
3. Must have ten years of engineering-related experience in which case related technical or vocational training will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years with the third education option above;
OR
4. Must have eight years of bridge inspection experience under the supervision of a Qualified InspectionTeam Leader, plus successful completion of a Federal Highway Administration approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course with the fourth education option above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possess and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites and other types of work zones which require the following of safety procedures.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
