Job Description

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Interpret engineering drawings, fabrication prints, specifications, and work instructions to determine fit-up and assembly requirements.

· Produce assemblies that meet drawing requirements and dimensional tolerances on the first pass with minimal rework.

· Layout, measure, mark, and fit structural steel components to required dimensions and tolerances.

· Assemble girders, end trucks, machinery platforms, walkways, brackets, and other crane components.

· Select proper materials, bracing, fixtures, and fit-up methods to control shrinkage and distortion.

· Perform fit-up and tack welding as required to prepare assemblies for final welding.

· Verify dimensions, elevations, squareness, and alignment throughout fabrication.

· Use measuring devices including tape measures, squares, levels, calipers, laser measuring tools, and other precision instruments.

· Operate fabrication equipment including ironworkers, drill presses, grinders, magnetic drills, band saws, and plasma cutting equipment.

· Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment safely.

· Perform visual inspections to ensure assemblies meet drawing and quality requirements.

· Identify and communicate discrepancies in drawings, materials, or fit-up conditions.

· Assist less experienced fitters with layout and assembly techniques.

· Maintain a clean and organized work area and comply with all safety requirements.

· Follow all Konecranes safety directives and procedures.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

· Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills.

· Demonstrated ability to achieve high first-pass fit-up acceptance and dimensional accuracy.

· Ability to independently layout and fit complex structural assemblies.

· Working knowledge of welding processes and fit-up techniques.

· Strong understanding of dimensional tolerances and fabrication practices.

· Proficiency with measuring and layout tools.

· Ability to identify fit-up issues and recommend corrective actions.

· Good communication and teamwork skills.

· Strong commitment to quality and safety.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

· High School diploma or GED required.

· Technical, trade school, or vocational training preferred.

· Minimum 6 years of fitting, fabrication, or structural assembly experience.

· Experience working with heavy steel fabrications preferred.

· Tacker qualification required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

· Visual acuity to read drawings and inspect assemblies.

· Ability to work in awkward positions, confined spaces, and elevated work areas.

· Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, and lifting.

· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

· Ability to work overtime as required.
