Position Overview
As a Superintendent with Kiewit Power Delivery, you will play a pivotal role in delivering some of the most ambitious and high-impact transmission and substation projects in the industry. We are proud to be directly assigned to a multi-billion-dollar portfolio of work supporting transformative infrastructure initiatives across the electric utility sector.
You will lead field operations using the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) model—a progressive design-build approach that allows you to influence engineering and construction outcomes from the earliest stages.
You’ll supervise multiple foremen and craft professionals, ensuring excellence in execution, safety, scheduling, cost control, and client satisfaction. This is more than a job—it’s a chance to shape the future of power delivery.

Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Construction Management
- Lead day-to-day field operations for transmission, distribution, and substation construction projects.
- Supervise craft personnel, foremen, subcontractors, and field crews to ensure safe and efficient project execution.
- Establish daily work plans and coordinate resources to meet project schedules and production goals.
- Drive field productivity while maintaining quality standards and budget objectives.
Safety Leadership
- Promote and enforce Kiewit's safety culture and expectations across all jobsite activities.
- Conduct daily safety meetings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and field audits.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, utility requirements, and environmental standards.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Transmission & Distribution Construction
- Oversee construction activities related to transmission line installation, structure erection, conductor installation, foundations, and distribution systems.
- Coordinate outage work, switching requirements, and utility interface activities.
- Ensure work is completed according to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
Substation Construction
- Manage greenfield and brownfield substation construction activities.
- Coordinate civil, structural, electrical, and commissioning-related work.
- Oversee installation of transformers, breakers, switchgear, bus systems, protection and control equipment, and associated infrastructure.
Project Planning & Scheduling
- Collaborate with project management teams to develop and execute construction schedules.
- Identify and resolve field constraints that impact project performance.
- Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to support project milestones.
- Provide accurate progress updates and production reporting.
Quality Control
- Ensure all work complies with project specifications, engineering drawings, and client requirements.
- Participate in inspections, testing activities, and turnover processes.
- Drive continuous improvement and quality excellence throughout project execution.
Client & Stakeholder Coordination
- Interface with utility clients, engineers, project managers, inspectors, and subcontractors.
- Maintain strong customer relationships while ensuring project objectives are achieved.
- Support project meetings and provide field expertise to resolve technical and operational challenges.
Cost & Resource Management
- Monitor labor productivity, material usage, and equipment utilization.
- Assist in identifying and mitigating project risks.
- Support cost-control efforts while maintaining operational effectiveness and safety standards.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of construction experience in the utility, power delivery, or heavy industrial industries.
- 5+ years of experience in a Superintendent, General Foreman, or equivalent field leadership role.
- Extensive experience supporting high-voltage transmission, distribution, and substation construction projects.
- Strong understanding of transmission line construction methods, substation equipment installation, and utility standards.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing large field crews and subcontractors.
- Proven commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively.
Working Conditions
- Field-based position with extensive travel throughout North America.
- Work performed primarily at active construction sites, substations, transmission corridors, and utility facilities.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and remote environments.
- Frequent walking, climbing, standing, and working on uneven terrain.
- May oversee work around energized electrical systems and high-voltage equipment.
- Schedule may include overtime, weekends, outage work, and extended project assignments.
- Relocation or temporary assignment to project locations may be required based on business needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead field execution on high-voltage transmission and substation projects
- Mentor and develop junior superintendents and foremen
- Oversee subcontractor coordination and contract administration
- Drive client engagement and represent Kiewit in planning and problem-solving meetings
- Mentor and help to grow Jr. Superintendents
- Develop a program to maintain good client relations involving staff on site
- Initiate and attend supplementary and regular meeting with client for problem resolution and planning
- Oversee and approve the monthly job cost updates and quarterly cash flow projections
- Develop and implement a plan for project completion and turnover
- Maintain daily diary for record-keeping purposes
- Ensure that all performance evaluations and completed in a timely fashion for direct reports
- Recommend, where appropriate, organizational, policy, and procedural or staff changes
- Review and approve or reject promotions up to General Foremen.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of construction experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role on transmission or substation projects
• Proven ability to lead teams on complex, large-scale infrastructure projects
• Strong understanding of progressive design-build or ECI models is a plus
• Excellent communication, planning, and negotiation skills
• Self-starter with a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
