We are currently seeking a Solar Field Design Specialist to support our internal Engineering and Design teams by providing practical, field-based expertise throughout the residential solar design process.
This role is responsible for reviewing project photos and site information from a field installer's perspective, identifying potential installation concerns, and working directly with our internal Engineering team to ensure plansets accurately reflect site conditions and can be successfully installed in the field.
The ideal candidate has hands-on residential solar installation experience and understands how design decisions translate into actual installation conditions. This is not a field installation position. Rather, this role uses field experience to help our Engineering and Design teams make accurate, practical, and installation-ready decisions.
Duties/Responsibilities
Review project photos, site documentation, and field information to identify potential installation concerns
Evaluate proposed solar designs and plansets from a field installer's perspective
Partner directly with internal Engineering and Design teams to provide practical installation feedback
Identify discrepancies between field conditions and proposed plansets
Determine whether proposed equipment, layouts, electrical configurations, and installation methods are practical and appropriate for the field conditions
Provide recommendations to Engineering when field conditions require design adjustments or additional consideration
Help Engineering understand how roof conditions, electrical equipment, conduit routing, equipment locations, access, and other site conditions may impact installation
Review photos for potential issues that could result in installation delays, rework, failed inspections, or change orders
Assist in developing consistent solutions for common field conditions and installation challenges
Communicate clearly with Engineering, Design, Operations, and other internal teams regarding project-specific concerns
Escalate complex or unusual conditions to the appropriate Engineering resource
Help improve design and engineering processes by identifying recurring field issues and opportunities for improvement
Maintain a high level of quality and accuracy when reviewing projects
Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities
1–2 years of hands-on residential solar installation experience
Strong understanding of residential solar installation practices
Ability to interpret solar plansets and electrical drawings
Strong understanding of residential electrical systems and solar equipment
Ability to evaluate site conditions using project photos and documentation
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
Ability to identify potential installation issues before they reach the field
Ability to communicate technical information clearly to Engineering and other internal teams
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
Comfortable using computers and reviewing digital plans, photos, and project documentation
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
1–2 years of residential solar installation experience required
Experience working with residential PV systems, electrical equipment, and solar plansets preferred
NABCEP certification or other solar-related certification/licensing is a plus
Driving Requirements
Must be at least 21 years old
Physical Requirements
This is primarily an office-based position and does not require routine rooftop installation work
Ability to review detailed project photos, plansets, and technical documentation for extended periods
Occasional field visits may be required
Work Environment
This position primarily works in an office environment and collaborates closely with Field, Design, and Operations teams
The role may occasionally require visits to active solar installation sites to better understand field conditions and installation practices
The position requires frequent review of project photos and digital plansets to evaluate installation feasibility
