Senior Estimator
Position Summary
The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the development, estimation, and delivery of high-quality technical and commercial proposals for strategic Integrated Control & Safety System (ICSS) projects. The role provides end-to-end ownership of the proposal process, including solution development, cost estimation, risk assessment, stakeholder coordination, vendor engagement, governance approvals, proposal submission, and post-bid support.
Working closely with Sales, Operations, Engineering, Procurement, Finance, and external partners, the Senior Estimator develops competitive, compliant, and profitable solutions that maximize customer value while supporting Honeywell's strategic growth objectives. The role requires strong technical expertise, commercial acumen, leadership capability, and the ability to manage complex bid activities across multiple stakeholders and regions.
Key Responsibilities
Proposal Leadership and Strategy
- Lead and coordinate cross-functional proposal teams to develop accurate, compliant, and commercially competitive proposals within established timelines.
- Own the end-to-end proposal development process, from opportunity qualification through submission and post-bid support.
- Participate in bid/no-bid reviews and contribute to proposal strategy, risk mitigation, and win themes.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive Proposal Execution Plans, including resource allocation, deliverables, responsibilities, milestones, and submission schedules.
- Lead the preparation and successful submission of large-scale, complex proposals and tenders, including multi-country and international projects.
Technical Solution Development
- Analyze customer requirements, requests for quotation, specifications, and supporting documents to develop technically compliant and commercially viable solutions.
- Analyze, design, and develop end-to-end ICSS solutions, with a primary focus on Distributed Control Systems (DCS), SCADA, Process Safety Systems, PLCs, and associated automation technologies.
- Develop innovative technical and commercial alternatives that optimize competitiveness, profitability, risk profile, and customer value.
- Ensure proposed solutions align with customer requirements and Honeywell strategic initiatives, including market verticalization, new product introduction, and other growth priorities.
Estimating and Commercial Management
- Prepare accurate cost estimates and commercial proposals for greenfield, brownfield, modernization, and service projects using approved methodologies, tools, and procedures.
- Conduct commercial reviews to identify risks, opportunities, cost drivers, and margin improvement initiatives.
- Develop pricing strategies that balance market competitiveness, customer value, and business profitability objectives.
- Use applicable systems and tools to maintain accurate documentation of estimates, proposals, assumptions, exclusions, and supporting information.
Vendor and Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate with Procurement and supporting functions to obtain technical and commercial quotations from suppliers, subcontractors, and third-party vendors.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Sales, Operations, Engineering, Finance, Procurement, suppliers, and customers to support proposal success.
- Collaborate with regional and global teams to develop optimized technical and commercial solutions.
Proposal Governance and Compliance
- Ensure complete and compliant responses to customer bid packages, including all required technical submissions, commercial documents, scope of supply, and supporting information.
- Prepare and submit required approval documentation in accordance with Honeywell governance requirements.
- Ensure proposals comply with customer specifications, company standards, contractual requirements, and applicable regulations.
Post-Bid Support and Continuous Improvement
- Support customer technical and commercial clarification activities following proposal submission and update proposals as required.
- Continuously enhance knowledge of Honeywell solutions, industry trends, competitor offerings, and market developments.
- Drive standardization, process improvement, estimating best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives across the estimating community.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and mentoring to junior estimators and proposal engineers.
Qualifications
Key Skills and Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in Process Automation, Industrial Control Systems, or related engineering solutions.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating, proposal management, bid execution, or commercial engineering roles.
- Proven experience successfully delivering complete proposals for large and complex projects, including international opportunities.
Technical Competencies
- Strong understanding of process industries, including Oil & Gas, Refining, Petrochemicals, LNG, Power, Mining, Metals, and Minerals.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in Industrial Control Systems, including DCS, SCADA, PLC, and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
- Experience with Honeywell automation solutions, including Experion, Safety Manager, FSC, and related technologies, is highly desirable.
