\nThe OpportunityAEP Global is looking for an experienced Senior Authorised Person (SAP) with 33kV authorisation to join our growing electrical team and support major mission-critical and data centre projects across Europe.
This is a senior electrical safety position with responsibility for the safe control, switching, isolation, energisation and operation of HV electrical systems up to 33kV.
Working alongside Commissioning Managers, Electrical Engineers, Authorised Persons, contractors, vendors and client teams, you will take a lead role in ensuring all HV activities are undertaken safely and in accordance with the relevant Electrical Safety Rules, Safe Systems of Work and approved project procedures.
Due to the location and mobility requirements of our European projects, candidates must hold a valid EU passport providing the appropriate right to work across the EU.
- Acting as the Senior Authorised Person (SAP) for HV electrical systems up to and including 33kV.
- Planning, organising and executing HV switching, isolation, earthing and energisation activities.
- Controlling and administering the site's electrical Safe System of Work (SSoW).
- Preparing, issuing, receiving, suspending and cancelling electrical safety documentation, including Permits-to-Work and Sanctions for Test, as applicable.
- Ensuring safe isolation and proving dead prior to work commencing.
- Managing and coordinating LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out) procedures.
- Ensuring all personnel comply with Electrical Safety Rules and site-specific safety procedures.
- Overseeing, mentoring and coordinating Authorised Persons (APs) and other competent electrical personnel.
- Reviewing switching schedules, RAMS, commissioning procedures and electrical documentation.
- Inspecting HV electrical systems and equipment prior to energisation.
- Supporting the safe energisation and commissioning of HV distribution systems.
- Coordinating activities with Commissioning Managers, engineers, contractors, OEMs and client representatives.
- Supporting fault finding and technical resolution during commissioning and energisation.
- Managing interfaces between construction, commissioning and operational electrical teams.
- Supporting and overseeing planned preventative maintenance activities where required.
- Maintaining accurate records of permits, switching activities, isolations, safety documentation and electrical events.
- Leading or supporting investigations relating to electrical incidents, near misses and safety events.
- Maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and electrical compliance throughout project delivery.
- Representing AEP Global professionally during client meetings and site coordination activities.

- Current or previous Senior Authorised Person (SAP) authorisation at 33kV.
- Demonstrable hands-on experience carrying out 33kV switching, isolation, earthing and energisation.
- Strong practical knowledge of HV distribution systems and electrical safety procedures.
- Proven experience managing and operating Safe Systems of Work (SSoW).
- Experience issuing and controlling HV electrical safety documentation and Permit-to-Work systems.
- Strong understanding of LOTO and safe isolation procedures.
- Experience working with HV switchgear, transformers and associated electrical distribution equipment.
- Experience with Ring Main Units (RMUs).
- Recognised electrical apprenticeship, HNC/HND, Electrical Engineering qualification or equivalent technical training.
- Appropriate electrical/site safety certification such as ECS/CSCS, CCNSG or equivalent.
- Strong health and safety knowledge.
- Strong leadership skills with experience overseeing APs, contractors and electrical teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to identify electrical faults and make safe, informed decisions in high-pressure environments.
- Ability to successfully complete an AEP technical SAP assessment/interview.
- Valid EU passport – essential for deployment across AEP's European projects.
- Willingness to travel and work across European project locations and rotations.
- Previous data centre or mission-critical infrastructure experience.
- Experience supporting commissioning activities from construction completion through energisation and operational readiness.
- Experience working within live or partially energised critical environments.
- Experience with Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), including operation, switching, isolation and maintenance.
- Experience with OEM equipment from manufacturers such as Siemens Energy, Hitachi Energy and ABB.
- Experience managing multiple APs and competent persons within an HV environment.
- Electrical Inspection & Testing qualification such as 2391 or equivalent.
- SMSTS, IOSH or NEBOSH safety qualification.
- Experience working on European projects and within multinational project teams.
We're looking for a technically strong, confident and safety-focused 33kV Senior Authorised Person who understands the responsibility that comes with controlling HV electrical systems in a mission-critical environment.
You will be comfortable taking ownership of electrical safety, leading switching and energisation activities, managing Authorised Persons and challenging unsafe working practices where required.
You'll also need to be confident representing AEP Global in front of clients, contractors, commissioning teams and OEMs while maintaining a structured and professional approach to electrical safety.
