Seeking a Senior Electrical Test Engineer for our BESS Engineering Team. This position is a member of a test engineering team working Friday through Monday with typical working hours of 9am to 5pm EST.
The Senior Electrical Test Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and execution of testing activities for battery and inverter systems. This role schedules and coordinates test teams, develops test plans, oversees test bench work order coordination, executes and records test results, and produces deviation and fault records. The Test Technologist also develops commissioning documentation based on established test procedures. This individual will drive component, subsystem, and system-level validation activities, perform root cause analysis, and develop corrective actions for issues identified during product development, manufacturing, and field operation.
This position reports to the Engineering Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct testing on ESS, PCS, and generator systems, including droop curve analysis of bidirectional inverters; validated new firmware settings; and performed operational testing and software debugging for new inverters and BMS systems.
- Generate site plans and single line diagrams (SLDs) using AutoCAD
- Coordinate with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to resolve testing issues and ensure alignment on test scope
•Conduct testing on BESS products and subsystems, including assembly of test setups, wiring of high-voltage and low-voltage circuits, configuration of batteries, power conversion equipment, load banks, and monitoring systems, as well as execution of component and system-level validation tests.
• Perform testing involving stored energy systems and high levels of AC/DC current and voltage while following all applicable safety procedures and industry standards.
• Support the development of component, subsystem, and system-level test plans, validation strategies, and test procedures for battery energy storage products.
• Execute electrical, functional, performance, environmental, reliability, and abuse testing of BESS hardware and control systems.
• Perform root cause analysis and develop solutions for issues identified during product development, manufacturing, commissioning, and field operation.
• Analyze test data and system performance to verify compliance with product requirements, safety standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Formally document test plans, test procedures, test reports, validation results, and technical issues.
• Drive resolution of technical issues and escalate significant concerns to engineering leadership as required.
• Collaborate with electrical, firmware, software, systems, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers, as well as internal and external partners, to optimize complex energy storage system designs.
• Support product certifications and compliance testing activities, including applicable energy storage and power conversion standards.
• Mentor and coach less experienced engineers and technicians.
• Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 5+ years of relevant work experience.
• Competence and experience working with stored energy and high levels of AC/DC current and voltage.
• Hands-on experience running tests on complex electronic components and/or systems, including the use of oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other various electronic test equipment/meters.
• Experience developing component and/or system-level Test Plans, Test Procedures, and Test Reports.
• Skills and experience determining the root cause of complex electronic hardware issues identified during testing, manufacturing, or in the field.
• Strong decision-making skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication.

• AutoCAD, Modbus pull
• knowledge of E-TAP, Creo
• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience with PCBA design and manufacturing.
• Firmware development and validation experience.
• Experience with the design and development of high-power electronics.
• Experience with renewable energy products and energy storage systems.
• Experience testing and validating Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), battery management systems (BMS), power conversion systems (PCS), or grid-connected energy systems.
• Familiarity with lithium-ion battery technologies, battery safety standards, and energy storage performance testing.
• Knowledge of UL 9540, UL 9540A, UL 1973, IEEE 1547, NFPA 855, and other applicable energy storage industry standards.
• Experience with data acquisition systems, automation tools, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing environments.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion, the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Work may also involve hands-on testing in laboratory and energy storage test environments with exposure to energized equipment. Occasional travel is required.
