JOB DESCRIPTION
Seeking a Weld Engineer/AWS Certified Weld Inspector to serve as the lead for welding and fabrication supplier quality. 40hr. / week start time can vary is flexible, 7- 3:30, 8-4:30 or 9-5
Travel up to 30% of the time will be required. Travel to Michigan, Colorado Springs, or other locations. 2–3-day inspection trips.
Position is based out of Salt Lake City, UT - Would prefer local candidate Onsite
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the lead for fabrication and welding supplier quality across supplier base.
· Lead supplier technical evaluation to ensure compliance with ASME, AWS, ISO 9001, and JRA’s requirements.
- Conduct supplier audits and on-site assessments of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and fabrication capabilities.
- Review and approve critical supplier documentation, including engineering drawings, MTRs, WPS, PQR, WPQR, PPAPs, weld maps, and NDT reports.
- Verify material traceability, dimensional accuracy, and non-destructive testing (NDT) compliance.
- Perform receiving inspections on all structural steel components.
Requirements:
Must Have
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- Proficiency with welding codes and standards (e.g., AWS D1.1 / D1.2 /D1.3/ D1.6, B2.1/ASME Section IX).
- Strong working knowledge of welding processes: FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW.
- Working knowledge of NDT methods (UT, RT, MT, PT, VT) and weld inspection criteria ASNT TC-1A
Technical Skills Nice to have:
- Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor close
- Experience in Industrial Manufacturing and Metal Fabrication close
- Experience with on-site audit inspections close
- knowledge with Lean Six Sigma close
Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from 4-year College or university in related engineering field, or six years related experience and/or training in the welding field.
