About this role

We are looking for a Sr Manager, Sales Development or Business Development with 7+ years of total sales experience and 2+ years of BDR/SDR management experience to lead and scale our outbound business development function at a fast-growing, a16z and YC-backed AI startup transforming the insurance industry. This is a founding leadership hire reporting directly to our SVP of Sales, with a clear path to Director as the team grows.

What will you be doing?

Lead a team of 5-6 enterprise SDRs/BDRs from day one, with plans to scale headcount and eventually manage two sub-team managers underneath you

Sharpen existing playbooks, messaging, and sequences while building out process, tooling, cadences, and ramp plans to accelerate pipeline

Coach and develop reps to prospect into C-level executives at the largest insurance companies — training them on account mapping, messaging, and objection handling

Own team pipeline targets and performance management, diagnosing conversion issues and driving consistent improvement across the team

Partner cross-functionally with AEs and marketing to shape broader GTM strategy and ensure high-quality handoffs and feedback loops

Key Requirements

Consistent career progression with demonstrated promotions — no job-hopping (1-2 year stints are a dealbreaker)

2+ years managing an SDR/BDR team focused on enterprise or strategic accounts, ideally at a high-growth startup — must have hired and built the team, not just inherited it

Proven track record as both a player and a coach — your teams have hit quota and your reps have developed under your leadership

Polished, executive-ready presence — confident putting this person in front of C-level executives at major insurance carriers

Must be in-office in San Francisco (Financial District) or Manhattan, New York
