About this role
Search Engineer at Firecrawl
Build the systems that let anyone turn the open web into a search index. Firecrawl's search product is one of the fastest-growing surfaces, and this role owns ranking quality and relevance from day one; the crawling and indexing systems exist to serve it.
What You'll Do:
Own ranking quality and relevance for LLM-driven retrieval — the core of this role.
Design and build the crawling, indexing, and retrieval systems behind Firecrawl Search
Push down latency and cost per query while search volume grows
Own services end to end — design, ship, monitor, and iterate in production
Work directly with the Head of Search and the rest of the search team on the roadmap
What We're Looking For:
3+ years building search/retrieval systems in production, with ranking and relevance as your primary muscle
Care about latency, cost, and correctness in equal measure
Comfortable owning ambiguous problems and turning them into shipped systems
Move fast and close the loop — ship, measure, and iterate over perfecting on paper
Technical Gap This Hire Fills: Owned ranking and relevance — someone who has driven relevance quality in production and can point to the metric they moved.
Compensation: $190, 000–$260, 000/year + competitive equity. Range shown is for U.S.-based employees in San Francisco, CA.
