Responsibilities
Position Summary The Part-Time Fitness Floor Monitor supports a safe, clean, welcoming, and well-organized fitness environment. This role monitors participant activity, assists patrons with basic equipment use, enforces policies, identifies hazards, and provides responsive customer service while remaining within the position’s training and scope of responsibility.

- Monitors cardiovascular, strength, functional training, and related fitness spaces for safe use and policy compliance
- Greets patrons, answers routine questions, and provides basic orientation to approved fitness equipment
- Educates patrons on posted equipment guidelines and refers exercise prescription or medical questions to appropriately qualified staff
- Conducts scheduled walkthroughs and identifies unsafe practices, hazards, damaged equipment, and maintenance concerns
- Cleans and organizes equipment and fitness areas according to established procedures and sanitation schedules
- Responds to injuries, medical emergencies, and facility incidents according to emergency action procedures
- Enforces age, attire, access, equipment-use, and conduct policies consistently and respectfully
- Documents equipment concerns, incidents, participation information, and shift activity as assigned
- Communicates patron concerns and unresolved operational issues to the supervisor
- Supports fitness programs, special events, equipment moves, and facility transitions as assigned
- Attends required training, staff meetings, and emergency drills
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, or ability to obtain within the timeframe established by the employer
- Demonstrated customer service and communication skills
- Ability to learn safe operating guidelines for common cardiovascular and strength-training equipment
- Ability to remain attentive, enforce policies, and respond appropriately to emergencies
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a fitness, recreation, wellness, hospitality, or customer-service environment
- Familiarity with common fitness equipment and basic facility operations
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Work Schedule Part-time schedule with hours varying based on facility operations and fitness-area coverage needs. Early morning, evening, weekend, holiday, and special event availability may be required.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in indoor and/or outdoor recreation, aquatic, fitness, customer-service, office, and activity spaces as assigned.
- The environment may include moderate to loud noise, changing temperatures, humidity, wet surfaces, crowds, and exposure to cleaning products or outdoor weather conditions.
- The position regularly interacts with patrons, students, guests, coworkers, vendors, and client representatives.
- Work may occur during early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
- The work environment described is representative of conditions encountered while performing the essential duties of the position.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position and move throughout assigned work areas for varying portions of the shift.
- Frequently communicates with and exchanges accurate information with patrons, participants, staff, guests, and emergency responders.
- Frequently uses hands and fingers to operate equipment, computers, radios, telephones, point-of-sale devices, or other tools required by the assignment.
- Occasionally bends, reaches, kneels, crouches, pushes, pulls, and moves supplies or equipment weighing up to 45 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Frequently walks throughout fitness areas and occasionally bends, reaches, pushes, pulls, or moves light equipment and supplies
- Must be able to visually monitor participant activity and hear and respond to alarms, calls for assistance, and verbal communication in a moderate-to-loud environment
- Must be able to respond promptly to emergency situations and perform the essential duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
