Associate Real-Time Trader
Location: New York City
The Associate Real-Time Trader is an entry-level, front-office role focused on trading physical power in the spot market and optimizing the Company’s generation fleet. You will trade in the day-ahead and real-time markets, engage in bilateral transactions with counterparties, balance positions across the portfolio, and optimize generation including hydro, pumped storage, battery storage (BESS), wind, and solar assets.
The Real-Time Desk operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Traders work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule that includes days, nights, weekends, and holidays, and permits extended periods of time off. The desk covers the major North American power markets, including ISONE, NYISO, PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, IESO, WECC region, and CAISO, giving you exposure to a breadth of markets early in your career.
You will start with on-site training alongside experienced traders and take on real-time position responsibility as you demonstrate readiness. Over time you will develop your trading skills and take ownership of your own P&L, with performance recognized through a clear promotion track from Associate to Trader I, Trader II, and Senior Real-Time Trader. Base salary, target bonus, and P&L targets increase at each level. The role sits within the front office alongside Real-Time Traders, Analysts, and Short-Term Traders, and reports to the Director of Real-Time Trading.
Responsibilities
- Trade virtuals and physical power in the day-ahead and real-time markets across the continental US (ISONE, NYISO, PJM, MISO, SPP, ERCOT, IESO, WECC region, CAISO)
- Optimize the Company’s generation portfolio in real time, including hydro, pumped storage, battery storage (BESS), wind, and solar assets
- Negotiate and execute bilateral transactions with counterparties, balance positions across the portfolio, manage curtailments, and re-supply contracts
- Communicate regularly with the regional trading teams on real-time issues
- Maintain the trade capture system (record, enter, and verify transactions)

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field
- Demonstrated interest in trading, physical power markets, asset optimization, or renewable energy (through coursework, internships, projects, competitions, or personal study)
- Advanced Excel skills required; familiarity with Python or other data analysis tools an asset
- Working knowledge of OASIS transmission reservations systems, OATI tagging systems, and ISO scheduling systems an asset
- Authorization to work in the United States
Working Conditions
Candidates must be willing to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule (7:00am to 7:00pm / 7:00pm to 7:00am), including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Training is completed on-site at our New York City office. Following training, weekday shifts are worked on-site, and night, weekend, and holiday shifts may be worked remotely.
Salary Range: 110,000 - 115,000
