About this role
Application close date:
Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed. At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight. As an Avionics Integration and Test Engineer on our Engines Avionics team, you will own the integration and verification of the avionics that control and monitor our rocket engines. You will work at the boundaries between hardware, FPGA, embedded software, and control systems, taking units from first power-on through formal requirements verification and into engine-level test. You will set the verification strategy for the subsystems you own, author the requirements, interface control documents, and design documentation that the discipline teams build against, and represent integration and testability in the architecture decisions that shape the next generation of our engine avionics.
The successful candidate is a seasoned technical leader and recognized expert in avionics and control systems. Your effectiveness stems from four integrated competency areas:
(1) Technical Expertise — Domain knowledge in aerospace electronics, embedded software, controls algorithms, sensors, actuators, power systems, and data networks, combined with systems-level thinking that anticipates downstream impacts of design decisions
(2) Technical Leadership — sound judgment that balances innovation with reliability, fluency in design reviews, and failure analysis acumen
(3) People & Team Dynamics — mentorship mindset, cross-functional influence, composure under pressure, and a collaborative style that fosters innovation and resilience
(4) Strategic Vision & Organizational Impact — tying technical decisions to mission success and business goals, identifying organizational gaps before they escalate, and communicating a compelling technical vision across all levels. You hold yourself and your teams to the highest standards of engineering rigor.

The primary locations for this role are listed below. Please indicate in the application where you would be willing to be located.
Kent, WA
Huntsville, AL
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Bring up and functionally test engine avionics units: first power-on, functional checkout, and troubleshooting to root cause across the hardware, FPGA, embedded software, and controls boundaries.
Set the verification strategy for the avionics subsystems you own, and lead verification and integration campaigns from planning through closure.
Define verification methods and expectations against requirements, author and execute test procedures, produce test reports, and drive requirements to closure.
Author and maintain requirements, digital and electrical interface control documents, and design documentation that the hardware, FPGA, software, and controls teams build against.
Integrate avionics into the engine system and support stand and hot-fire test campaigns, including on-console test support, anomaly investigation, and corrective action.
Represent integration and testability in cross-discipline architecture and design decisions spanning FPGA, embedded software, control systems, and hardware.
Mentor engineers on verification practice, test execution, and troubleshooting technique.

BS degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field, and 5+ years of relevant experience;
Familiarity with each of the avionics disciplines this role integrates across: digital and analog hardware, FPGA design, embedded software, and control systems.
- Working knowledge of at least one of those disciplines is required. Depth in more than one is strongly preferred.
Hands-on experience bringing up and troubleshooting electronic hardware, including reading schematics and interface control documents, and isolating faults across hardware and software boundaries.
Experience with formalized verification activities (test cases, procedures, reports) and driving requirements to closure.
Experience authoring requirements, interface control documents, or design documentation.
Experience owning a technical scope end to end and leading the work of others, formally or informally.
Collaborative interactions with multidisciplinary engineering teams while maintaining objectivity and independence.
Ability to earn trust and maintain positive and professional relationships.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs.
Flexible and adaptable mindset.
Self-driven with the ability to seek out requirements with minimal direction.

Experience with safety-critical, human-rated, or real-time embedded systems development.
Experience with requirements management tooling such as Jama or DOORS.
Experience supporting hot-fire, test stand, or vehicle-level test campaigns, including on-console test support.
