Overview

  • Review state tax estimate calculations, tax provisions and tax returns to ensure the bank complies with state tax regulatory and filing requirements
  • Responsible for handling notices from States
  • Monitor state tax law developments that are applicable to the bank
  • Coordinate indirect tax consulting needs (e.g. sales and use tax)

Responsibilities

Tax Return Filing & Year-end Tax Provision

  • Review tax provision prepared for FS purpose and handling external audit inquires
  • Review information collected for state income tax return preparation, such as state apportionment data
  • Monitor the return filing process to the applicable state tax authorities
  • Review annual state tax returns
  • Perform the annual state tax nexus and apportionment analysis

Quarterly Tax Accrual and Estimated Tax Calculation 

  • Review/prepare state tax quarterly/monthly provisions and ensure the accuracy of state tax calculations
  • Prepare state tax estimated tax payments

Tax Consulting 

  • Handling internal State and Local tax related inquiries, including:
    • Collect specific business facts and circumstances
    • Perform state tax research or leverage external tax resources to arrive at conclusionsUpdate policies and procedures to enhance internal control over state and local tax compliance

Tax Notices 

  • Conduct document collection, compilation and responses to notices received from state tax authorities
  • Contact tax authority to resolve open tax issues, such as the pending refunds and misapplied tax credits
  • Monitor audit progress and respond to the tax authorities’ requests

Tax Policies, Procedure, and Tax Accounting Treatment Update 

  • Update policies and procedures to enhance internal control over state and local tax compliance

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in a tax-related field
  • At least 2 years of experience in taxation or accounting, or relevant experience in the banking and financial services industry; 4+ years of experience in taxation or accounting, or relevant experience in the banking and financial services industry for AVP level
  • Knowledge of taxation, accounting, and finance/banking
  • Experience in corporate income tax, general ledger, and financial statement preparation; familiarity with accounting and regulatory compliance, including US GAAP and IFRS
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English

Pay Range

Actual salary is commensurate with candidate’s relevant years of experience, skillset, education and other qualifications.
