AOC Outreach Services is a comprehensive mental and behavioral health service provider based in Houston, Texas,
serving children, families, and individuals across the community. Through the AOC Crisis Program, our team delivers
24/7 crisis access, rapid screening and triage, and least-restrictive, whole-person care built on a “No Wrong Door”

POSITION SUMMARY
__
As a Registered Nurse with the AOC Crisis Program, you'll be a vital clinical presence for individuals and families
navigating a mental health or substance use crisis. You'll provide health literacy counseling, medication
administration, and hands-on nursing support that helps clients understand and manage their care — working
alongside QMHPs, therapists, and prescribers to stabilize clients in crisis and connect them to ongoing treatment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Health Literacy Counseling & Client Education
• Educate clients about their health conditions, treatment plans, and medication regimens to build understanding
and adherence, including during and after a crisis episode.
• Explain the benefits, potential side effects, and proper use of prescribed medications in clear, non-technical
language.
• Lead one-on-one and group education sessions that build health literacy and self-management skills.
• Help clients ask questions and advocate for their own health needs.
Medication Management
• Administer medications as prescribed and monitor clients for adverse reactions or side effects.
• Support medication adherence with practical, easy-to-follow strategies clients can use at home.
• Collaborate with physicians and pharmacists to ensure safe, effective medication management.
Crisis & Care Coordination
- Work closely with the crisis team — QMHPs, therapists, and case managers — to coordinate care during and
after a client's crisis contact.
• Help clients navigate the healthcare system and connect with the right level of ongoing support.
• Ensure continuity of care by communicating clearly with every member of the treatment team.
Documentation & Professional Development
• Maintain accurate, timely client records, including education sessions, medication administration, and progress
notes.
• Prepare documentation for treatment team meetings, case reviews, and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in ongoing training and supervision to stay current on crisis care best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education
• Associates or Bachelors degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
Licensure
• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas.
Experience
• At least one year of clinical experience involving medication management and client education preferred; crisis
or behavioral health experience is a plus.
Skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to stay calm and clear during high-stress
moments.
• Ability to educate clients using plain, non-technical language.
• Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary crisis team.
• Commitment to ethical practice, cultural competence, and client-centered care.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Work spans a range of settings — client homes, foster homes, outpatient clinics, community health centers, and
inpatient facilities.
• May require occasional evening or weekend hours depending on client and crisis-response needs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to sit for extended periods and use standard office equipment.
• Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
