About this role

The Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) organization is responsible for managing relationships with millions of Merchants and Partners around the world that facilitate American Express acceptance and enabling the day-to-day operations of our company’s payment network. 

The GMNS Pricing team is responsible for the single largest source of American Express revenue, merchant discount revenue. Leveraging customer-centric pricing principles and innovative pricing solutions, the team delivers merchant pricing to encourage acceptance and grow coverage, to increase merchant satisfaction and to drive GMNS revenue and profit. 

The Analyst, U.S. Third Party Partners (TPP) Pricing, is responsible for supporting partnership strategies, pricing analyses, partner negotiations, and results reporting. This role supports decision-making for relationship management and sales teams by delivering insights that drive growth among U.S. Small Merchant partnerships. The Analyst is also responsible for supporting important broad-scale pricing initiatives aimed at preserving the discount rate while balancing the organization’s goal for growing profitable charge volume and merchant expansion; essential to the strength of our business. The U.S. TPP Pricing team seeks candidates with diverse analytical and interpersonal skill sets interested in learning many aspects of the American Express business. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative pricing constructs, build business cases and generate ideas to differentiate AXP’s value while considering impact to our P&L and relative to the external environment. 
  • Partner closely with the Partner Management Organization to develop pricing strategies and to influence our negotiation strategies. 
  • Support analytics for pricing strategies, partner negotiations, and overall TPP growth strategies. 
  • Drive implementation, maintenance and reporting of pricing programs and strategies. 
  • Deliver thought leadership and subject matter expertise for Small Merchant pricing programs such as OptBlue 
  • Collaborate with internal partners across Pricing, Business Development, Analytics, and Finance to drive growth for our clients. 
  • Partner across the enterprise to continue to strengthen Risk management and streamline internal processes 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in analytics, financial modeling and problem-solving; SQL or SAS is a plus. 
  • Proven ability to manage multiple deliverables and exhibit attention to detail. 
  • Demonstrated experience as a self-starter who can work both collaboratively and autonomously. 
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. 
  • Demonstrated professionalism and experience interacting with business partners and senior leaders. 
  • Intellectual curiosity and interest in gaining merchant and partnership experience. 
  • Bachelor’s degree is required; MBA or advanced degree is a plus
