Summary
The Lead Software Engineer (LSE) will serve as a senior technical leader with deep expertise in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce (e-commerce, POS, and Commerce Scale Unit) and modern engineering practices. This role bridges retail and digital commerce business processes with solution architecture, extension development, integrations, and operational excellence. The LSE will drive innovation, mentor engineering teams, and take ownership of solution design, product delivery, and enterprise-scale modernization initiatives across omnichannel commerce.
Roles and responsibilities:
1. Lead solution and feature design for D365 Commerce (e-commerce, POS, and Commerce Scale Unit), facilitating demos and technical deep-dives for engineering teams and business stakeholders.
2. Translate retail and digital commerce business processes into technical and functional specifications, guiding architecture decisions and providing constructive feedback during design and code reviews.
3. Architect and deliver scalable omnichannel solutions leveraging D365 Commerce configuration, Commerce extensions (POS/CRT/commerce runtime), and integrations with upstream/downstream systems (ERP, payments, tax, loyalty, inventory, OMS, CRM).
4. Own integration design and implementation using Commerce APIs, Dataverse, Power Platform, and Azure integration services, ensuring reliability, scalability, and observability.
5. Collaborate with PM/TPM/EM to drive program-level prioritization across releases manage dependency alignment across channel deployments (store/POS, e-commerce, CSU) to ensure business value delivery.
6. Facilitate PI planning, backlog refinement, and delivery tracking define technical milestones, risks, and mitigation plans aligned to enterprise objectives and retail calendars.
7. Lead incident response and on-call procedures for commerce production systems, ensuring timely resolution, root-cause analysis, and effective communication for store and digital outages.
8. Drive engineering excellence: establish coding standards, automated testing, performance baselines (POS responsiveness, e-commerce page performance), and secure development practices.
9. Champion product ownership and operational readiness, taking accountability for solution design, delivery, release quality, and stakeholder satisfaction.
10. Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and/or Azure DevOps automate packaging and deployment for POS, CSU, and e-commerce assets.
11. Coach and mentor senior engineers and functional consultants on D365 Commerce architecture, extension patterns, troubleshooting, and integration best practices.
12. Act as a versatile team contributor, collaborating across disciplines (product, operations, QA, security) and supporting Agile ceremonies and continuous improvement.
Must have skills:
1. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce ( e-commerce, POS) with hands-on experience delivering end-to-end omnichannel commerce implementations.
2. Strong experience with D365 Commerce extension development including Modern POS and Commerce Runtime (CRT) extension patterns, packaging, and deployment.
3. Deep knowledge of Commerce data flows (channel database, and Commerce Scale Unit), including configuration, synchronization, and troubleshooting for store and online channels.
4. Hands-on experience with Commerce APIs (CRT/CSU), OData/REST, and event-driven patterns for integrations (payments, tax, loyalty, inventory, pricing/promotions, OMS/ERP).
5. Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), and managed identities for secure authentication/authorization across commerce services and integrations.
6. Proven ability to design and deliver highly available, high-performance commerce solutions, balancing customer experience, store reliability, security, and maintainability.
Good to have skills:
1. Strong proficiency in Power Platform including Power Automate, Power Apps, and Dataverse for workflow automation, lightweight apps, and operational tooling around commerce processes.
2. Experience with Commerce Scale Unit (CSU) architecture, deployment, and monitoring, including channel database operations and store connectivity considerations.
3. Hands-on expertise with event-driven integration (Azure Service Bus/Event Grid), and familiarity with Dataverse patterns where applicable for cross-app orchestration.
4. Strong experience in Azure Logic Apps and Azure Functions for workflow automation and service orchestration.
5. Skilled in Power BI for financial and operational reporting, analytics, and visualization.
6. Experience with e-commerce architecture (headless/composable patterns, SEO, caching, CDN) and integrating commerce front ends with D365 Commerce back-end services.
7. Advanced expertise in Azure Synapse and Azure Data Factory for data pipelines, analytics, and enterprise-scale reporting.
8. Familiarity with payment processing concepts and security considerations (e.g., tokenization, PII handling) and partnering with security/compliance teams for commerce implementations.
9. Experience with observability (Application Insights, Log Analytics), SRE practices, and production readiness for high-traffic e-commerce and store operations.
10. Technical background in Azure (App Service, Functions, AKS, API Management, Key Vault, Service Bus, Application Gateway) and CI/CD pipelines for commerce and integration workloads.
11. Experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio and AI Builder for designing and deploying AI agents that support commerce use cases (e.g., associate enablement, customer support, order inquiries). Solid foundation in Generative AI, prompt engineering, guardrails, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agent testing for responsible automation
Educational Qualification:
1. B.S. in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or equivalent education and experience
2. 10-12+ years of experience in application design, development and delivery
3. Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
