This full-time locum position offers a rewarding opportunity to provide high-quality psychiatric care within our growing medical practice. As part of the Psychiatry department, you will deliver essential mental health services to patients while collaborating with a team of healthcare professionals. This role is well suited to entry-level physicians seeking hands-on clinical experience in a supportive environment.
In this role, you will evaluate and treat patients with psychiatric disorders, develop treatment plans, manage medications, and provide compassionate, evidence-based care. You will have the opportunity to work closely with other medical doctors, nurses, and mental health specialists to ensure comprehensive patient outcomes. Your work will directly support the practice’s mission to deliver accessible, quality psychiatric care in the Towson community.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for patients presenting with diverse mental health conditions
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient history, symptoms, and clinical guidelines
- Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications, monitoring patient response and adjusting treatments as needed
- Conduct individual and/or group therapy sessions in accordance with best practices and patient needs
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, psychologists, and other healthcare providers to coordinate patient care
- Document patient assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, and other medical records accurately
- Participate in patient follow-up care and continuity of care initiatives within the practice
- Educate patients and families about psychiatric diagnoses, treatment options, wellness, and recovery resources
- Adhere to medical ethics, confidentiality regulations, HIPAA, and state/federal healthcare compliance standards
- Support the practice’s psychiatric care protocols and contribute to continuous quality improvement
- Provide on-site psychiatric coverage as scheduled for this full-time locum role
Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree
- Board eligibility or board certification in Psychiatry
- Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice in the applicable jurisdiction
- Entry-level candidates are welcome; however, completion of a psychiatric residency is required
- Strong clinical reasoning and diagnostic skills in psychiatric care
- Knowledge of psychopharmacology, treatment modalities, and mental health disorders
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
- Compassionate, patient-centered approach to psychiatric medicine
- Ability to work on-site in Towson and maintain reliable, full-time availability
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems is preferred
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple patient cases
- Commitment to ethical practice, patient safety, and high-quality medical care
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8a-5p
Call: 2 weekend calls per month
Setting: 22-bed unit
Daily Volume: 10-11 patients
Patient Population: Adults
Case Types: Acute mood disorders
Support Staff: RNs, APPs, therapists, and a psychiatrist
EMR: Sunrise
Must be board-certified or board-eligible
