This is an on-site contract position within our hospitalist service line, offering a compelling opportunity for a physician who thrives in a fast-paced inpatient environment and wants to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care.

In this role, you will join our Internal Medicine department and play a key role in the assessment, treatment, and ongoing care of hospitalized patients. Working on-site in Gainesville, you will collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to manage acute and complex medical conditions, ensure smooth transitions of care,and support continuous quality improvement across the Medical Practice. This position is ideal for an Associate-level MD/DO with strong clinical skills and a dedication to patient-centered hospital medicine.

Responsibilities

• Admit and evaluate patients presenting to the hospitalist service, including comprehensive histories and physical examinations.
• Develop and implement evidence-based care plans for patients with acute, chronic,and complex internal medicine conditions.
• Conduct daily rounds on assigned inpatient units and monitor patient progress, response to treatment,and clinical status changes.
• Order, interpret,and document diagnostic tests, medications,and therapies in accordance with hospital and Medical Practice protocols.
• Collaborate with specialists, nurses, case managers,and allied health professionals to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
• Participate in patient discharge planning and ensure effective handoffs to outpatient providers or post-acute care settings.
• Respond to medical emergencies and provide timely intervention as needed on the hospitalist service.
• Document all patient encounters accurately and promptly in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
• Communicate clearly with patients, families,and caregivers about diagnoses, treatment plans,and progress updates.
• Support hospital and Medical Practice quality improvement initiatives, patient safety protocols,and regulatory compliance efforts.
• Provide coverage and continuity of care during scheduled contract assignments, including coordination with the larger hospitalist team.
• Maintain current medical knowledge, integrate best practices,and contribute to a collaborative clinical environment.

Requirements

• MD (Medical Doctor) or DO (Osteopathic Doctor) degree from an accredited medical school.
• Completion of an accredited residency program in Internal Medicine.
• Associate-level experience in hospital medicine or internal medicine patient care.
• Active, unrestricted medical license, with eligibility for licensure in the state where the assignment is located.
• Ready to work on-site in Gainesville for this contract position.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic,and treatment planning skills.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written, for patient care, family discussions,and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Comfortable using electronic health records (EHR) and hospital-based clinical documentation systems.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary hospital environment.
• Sound clinical judgment, problem-solving abilities,and attention to patient safety and quality of care.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing patient volumes, schedules,and hospital needs.
• Preferred: prior locum tenens or hospitalist experience in an inpatient setting.

Schedule: 7 on/7 off

Shifts: 7a-7p or 7p-7a

Setting: 532-bed hospital

Patient Volume: 20-22 per day

ICU rounding required

Subspecialty support available

Must be board-certified or board-eligible

Paid travel & expenses
