Locum MD (Medical Doctor), DO (Osteopathic Doctor) Gastroenterology

As a Locum Gastroenterology Physician, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and collaborating with our team to manage a diverse range of gastrointestinal conditions. This position is ideal for a motivated physician eager to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced clinical setting while contributing to the health and well-being of the Richmond community.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical history reviews and physical examinations for gastrointestinal concerns.
• Diagnose and manage a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, liver disease, and inflammatory bowel disease.
• Perform and assist with endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopies and upper endoscopies, under supervision as needed.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based medical guidelines.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work, imaging studies, and biopsy results.
• Document patient encounters accurately and promptly in the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
• Collaborate with nurses, specialists, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Educate patients and their families on gastrointestinal health, treatment options, and preventive care.
• Participate in on-call rotations and provide coverage for inpatient and outpatient consultations as required.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in gastroenterology through continuing medical education (CME).
• Maintain compliance with all medical, legal, and ethical standards set by the practice and regulatory bodies.

Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
• Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice in the state, or eligibility to obtain one prior to start.
• Completion of an accredited residency program in Internal Medicine or a related specialty; Gastroenterology fellowship training is a plus.
• Board certification or board eligibility in Gastroenterology is preferred.
• Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact compassionately with patients and families.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage a busy patient load.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required.
• Eligibility to work in the United States as a physician, including appropriate visa status if applicable.

Schedule: 24-hour call shifts

Setting: Inpatient

Patient Volume: 1 per day

Must be able to cover GI emergencies, including advanced/ERCP procedures

Support Staff: NP

Board certification required
